RE: Rank Your SBC Rivals
Perhaps the question should be who do you like beating the most and who do you like losing to the least?

Sometimes the answer can be the same. For App it would be GS for both questions, but for GS it is likely App and GA St., respectively.

Who knows, maybe someday you'll find out what it's like to lose to us.

RE: Rank Your SBC Rivals
The fact that most teams seem to have lists more than one or two with emerging rivalries popping up everything speaks well to the future of the SunBelt. This is the kind of thing that builds excitement for our products on the field.

I don't know if anything will ever top the football rivalry with Arkansas State. Both teams take incredible pleasure in beating the other.

App now is officially a rivalry because to be a rivalry, both teams must have success.

ULM will always be a rival whether Cajun fans want to admit it or not.

(just speaking football here.)

If you look at all sports, there has always been plenty of animosity between Louisiana and South Alabama.

I haven't made my list yet, but ULM will be last when I do. I'm not old enough to have any rivalry feelings with them. In my eyes, they haven't been good enough to grow any feelings of a rivalry and as you say success is a key component.. I know there has been close games played recently, but I just dont feel it. call it the "peer evaluation effect", i just made that up by the way.

Also, I DONT agree with your "ULM will always be a rival whether Cajun fans want to admit it or not", comment. The younger generation sees them different than the older folks. The more the 2 universities move in separate directions, tied with the current younger generation becoming the older generation things will have a different look for most of the fan base. Example, Mcneese was long ago once a strong rivalry for the older generation and now, you will be hard pressed to find a fan under 35-40 who cares anything about them. So to will be ULM!

I understand the reasoning with the changes of generations. I transferred to Troy in 2013 so South is who I’ve been conditioned to hate, and UAB. Jax State & MTSU not so much but other fans will say differently. At the same time, it doesn’t eliminate the fact the rivalry isn’t there. The only way I see this growing back is if ULM becomes competitive in most of the sports over a consistent period. I think it can also change from fan to fan, regardless of generation.

Of course it matters when we lose to ULM. A loss to ULM is a “state of the program” type loss. Both program have taken different trajectories since 1997 when annual meeting started to occur. ULM has beaten the Cajuns 10 times since ‘97. Of those 10 only four have come in the last 15 years.

While a loss to ULM is embarrassing to the program a win is just like any other win. Appalachian St, stAte, GaSo and South Al wins are more valued by our fans.

RE: Rank Your SBC Rivals
I think the obvious answer for USA is Troy #1 since we’ve had heated contests in football and baseball and live in the same state. But we have more history overall with the Cajuns. We’ve had heated contests in baseball, softball, and basketball. I wish the video of USA coach Ronnie Arrow losing his mind at the Cajundome because there was no courtside monitor was still available on YouTube. I’m waiting for the Jags to get better so we can extend our rivalry on the gridiron.

If the Sun Belt can keep progressing Texas state could be in a great position to separate themselves from the the G5 crowd in Texas. I would definitely stay the course and see how this things progress. Jumping in with the rest may provide instant rivals but if the ships sinking what good is it? Hopefully with two or three ranked teams coming into Bobcat Stadium it'll get some motors running.

Yea in years past I definitely wanted to join the CUSA Texas teams. Call me a changed man.

Just need to get series scheduled with UTEP, Rice, UTSA and UNT. Then beat their collectives butts every time y’all play. Be the choice for Texas’s next best and y’all will be pretty darn good.

Maybe Texas State AD should try to get games with SMU and Houston more. Forget the rest, aside from UTSA. That should develop with the right game or in time. Troy/South did.
Exactly! Thats the real answer

We agree on this. Once you lose to them, it becomes a rivalry. And, I think it stays that way as long as they are in the league. When they aren't they become McNeese as far as "former rivals" are concerned.

Arkansas State has been our biggest football rival for some time now. But I agree with a poster from earlier. If South Alabama ever gets good, they can move to the top, partly because of the history in MBKB, baseball and softball.

And you are entitled to your opinion. I respectfully disagree. Any game against ULM just doesn’t move the needle for me. If we lose to them in football, oh well, we should have played better. I’d much rather face other Conference teams.
