They can find a loophole just like the WAC to get back to FBS status as well. There are schools in those conferences that are FBS ready stadiums while schools not in those conferences do have FBS size stadiums like SWAC, MEAC, OVC, CAA, MVFC and Big Sky.

But with this pandemic issue? It showed a lot of holes, and lack of schools to replace teams because of the virus. If the WAC have teams in FBS by 2026 to 2030? The schools may not be able to play in Bowl games right away, but with another Pandemic? Waivers could be waived for any bowl games to fill in just in case.

We may do look at schools on the west coast to upgrade their stadiums, add football and all that to go FBS as well. ESPN would love to show night games. Eastern Washington is one that they would love to have at FBS.

Ok I'll bite. What is keeping ESPN from showing Eastern Washington games now?

They are not FBS, but when they showed FCS playoff games, they did pulled in some viewers better than some schools in the G5.

I know theyre FCS. That doesnt explain why ESPN doesn't show them every week since theyre apparently so desireable.

Some of the schools they are associated with like Idaho State and Northern Colorado. If they on schools like Boise State? That would be a matchup game of the week.

Wait, I thought EWU was the draw? Not the opponent.

They are a draw, but they are not when they are in the Big Sky.

Lets say EWU goes 10-0 vs a 10-0 Boise State? Would it draw more viewers than a 10-0 EWU vs a 0-10 Idaho State? You need the better matchup to get the viewers like EWU did when they played Sam Houston State in the playoffs. That is the point I am making. ESPN showed JMU vs Virginia Tech the week after Boise State beat Virginia Tech. Having the top FCS schools moved to FBS can help bring the ratings instead having a 70-0 beat down of a South Carolina State team.

Because it's a contract between FBS conferences/teams and when it was signed the WAC was FBS. The current contract is a simple extension.

That is not accurate. The CFP is a different contract than the old BCS contract.

I deleted the rest because it was built on that misunderstanding.

The reason that the WAC may be able to give out FBS invites is that the NCAA Division I manual says:

Quote:20.4.2.1.1 Eligibility for Reclassification. Before a Football Championship Subdivision institution may apply for reclassification to the Football Bowl Subdivision, the institution must receive a bona fide invitation for membership
from a Football Bowl Subdivision conference or a conference that previously met the definition of a Football Bowl Subdivision conference (see Bylaw 20.02.6). (Adopted: 1/15/11 effective 8/1/11)

Ah, I see my bad, by default though they would be included since the CFP's purpose was to ensure the top four teams participate meaning all the conferences are included, which also gives them protection from the g5 using since they are theoretically included. It only makes a slight difference for the rest. Which is that the FBS conference slot and money from the cfp is the lever. That it required one extra step to get to is not really important. The overall outcome is unchanged.

RE: WAC Plans To Announce FCS League
If the WAC goes FBS, it should at least explore looking at non-ESPN options. Would, say, NBC be willing to invest in additional content for NBCSN and Peacock? There could be a game at 8 PM or 8:30 PM Eastern on Saturdays; the only potential conflicts would be Auto Racing. It could also be a way to ply an extra game on NBC, say a WAC "home" game at NRG or the Cotton Bowl versus a P5 opponent. Other "neutral" stadiums could come into play if there are some additions further west.

There used to be PAC12 football on Versus in the late 2000s. Versus is NBCSN today. Surprised NBCSN never signed a G5 league for cheap.

Honestly I was just seeing how ridiculous it could get. But then I realized its a bit off topic and I didnt wanna derail the thread anymore that I already had.

CUSA and CAA are ignored because they suck, not because they’re not on ESPN. CUSA has an ESPN deal btw.

BAM. Everything you need to know. The WAC can go FBS any time they want to (and I hope they do).

On the other hand, the WAC Rule for conference continuity is a reminder of how quickly the NCAA rules can change when The Powers That Be want them changed.

I don't know how interested the existing FBS conferences are in bringing back the WAC. So that rule could disappear in 2021 as quickly as it appeared in 2011.

They are not FBS, but when they showed FCS playoff games, they did pulled in some viewers better than some schools in the G5.

Really? When?

The FCS Championship game back in Jan 2019 featuring the very same Eastern Washington team you claim would be such a draw against North Dakota State drew a 0.6 rating and had just 1 million viewers. Where exactly is the draw there?

There could be a game at 8 PM or 8:30 PM Eastern on Saturdays; the only potential conflicts would be Auto Racing. It could also be a way to ply an extra game on NBC, say a WAC "home" game at NRG or the Cotton Bowl versus a P5 opponent. Other "neutral" stadiums could come into play if there are some additions further west.

See CUSA and CAA
Exactly. Being in Texas, I should be able to find CUSA games without issue but that hasn't been the case.

Sometimes they were on FOX sports, or NFL network, or CBS Sports or facebook or random rabbit ear 12.3 channel.

The Sun Belt may not have the best deal, but their games are either on ESPN family or available through my ESPN app.
