Southern Utah is not even the best Big Sky program in Utah. Tack on 3 Texas schools that would be peers to Texas St and UTSA and throw in Abilene Christian. I don’t have a problem with any of the schools - I just don’t see it. He’s either blowing smoke or there’s something in the works that we don’t see.

Ah..I see it now. The WAC plans on bringing CUSA TX schools in the near future.

Dixie State got a Sugar Daddy to get their stadium to be FBS. They are upgrading the stadium.
Tarleton State said something about FBS later.
UTRGV already said about FBS plans, but they have not released yet if they want to add football yet. I think they are waiting until WAC announces an FCS conference before they make a move. They had no where to go if they do add football.
Colorado Mesa's name keeps coming up. They have the same size stadium as Southern Utah, but seemed they could raise money better than Southern Utah. The city where Colorado Mesa sits in is at 100,000 metro population and growing just like St. George, Utah.

RE: WAC Plans To Announce FCS League
I still don't understand why the P5 would allow any new FBS conference to have a single cent of CFP money.

And if you aren't getting a slice of CFP money, what the heck is the benefit to being FBS?

I’m sure a new conference would get a slice. Instead of the G5 money being split 5 ways, it’d be split 6 ways. Each G5 would get about 3.33% less.

so why is the G5 going to go along with that? Sure, the political power of the G5 is limited, but why is the P5 going to overrule the G5 objections?

Dixie State got $10 million donation from a solar company to upgrade their stadium right now in stages. The football stadium was renamed for the solar power company. They are building more seating in stages. They have plans to go 15,000 seats and they could expand more later.

As was already stated, the more G5 teams there are the greater the chances of buy game prices going down.

Plus do the G5 schools really want to deal with the public and political ramifications of crying about the "injustice" from the P5 while doing the exact same thing to this group?

He has been told many times about the stadium at West Texas A&M, the latest in Nov 2020.

I searched for stadium expansion projects at Central Oklahoma that involved adding seating and the only thing I found was from 2005 when they reached their current capacity of 10,000. A videoboard was added in 2014. Wantland Stadium

The Dixie State "sugar daddy" is gone. He's also been told this before.

Colorado Mesa does USE an 8,000 seat stadium. But it is owned and run by the city. High School games and other events are held there. Ralph Stocker Stadium He obviously does not believe that CMU already said NO to the WAC about two(?) years ago.

DavidSt has repeated the same rubbish so many times he has actually tricked his mind into believing it is true.

That's a good point. G5 like to focus on injustices committed by P5 against them, but do not oppose rules that harm those below them - like the rule that only some FCS games can count towards bowl eligibility, which makes FCS buy games less valuable to P5 and boosts the price of buy games with G5.

Being able to brand as an FBS team. We know that Oklahoma and North Texas are not the same but North Texas gets to say they are playing at the same level.

The can hold it over some teams during recruiting

There would be no ramifications because:

1. All 14,000 fans of these new WAC schools would be the only ones that care.
2. The lack of opportunity to play in the Northeast Wyoming Cow Dung Bowl instead of the FCS playoffs is not much of an injustice.
3. This is America, there are no ramifications for anything you say 12 minutes after you say it.

Sure there are.

The people in power at the P5 schools would be more than happy if the G5 schools exclude the WAC schools because it gives them all the ammunition they'll need to defeat any possible legal and/or federal legislative challenge to the current status quo.

The CFP monies can't be doled out to a conference which doesn't have football (yet). And I doubt the next contract will be amended midway through to let the WAC get a piece of the pie. Unless they get to FBS status by the time the new contract kicks in, they're likely getting the shaft.

So for four or five years no CFP money then they get it.
If Ohio and Michigan can have the MAC Texas and Utah can have the WAC.

The existing contract goes through thr 2025-2026 season, right?
The WAC said that they hope to be FBS "later this decade".

WAC starts FCS conference in 2022 with plan to move up. The current FCS schools only need a couple of years to reclassify and it holds the FBS "golden ticket" So why couldn't they come back to the table during those contract negotiations?

1) I’m not sure what all the requirements are (for the conference and each school individually) to make the jump but I’m incredibly skeptical that it could happen that quickly, especially with a couple schools that still aren’t eligible FCS members.
2) I’m not sure it’s a good idea for the conference yet. Moving too quickly is a recipe for disaster without the proper athletic and monetary infrastructure. It would only lead to schools having to drop back down a level or two or drop football altogether.

Because you need 8 full members (including NMSU) and there is no way all of these members in the new FCS league are moving up together. Certainly not in two or three years. Again, you cannot bring an FBS league which doesn't exist yet into a contract. The other leagues won't let it happen.

This year showed that the current contract is rigid, no alterations made whatsoever. This was the perfect opportunity for expanding the "playoff" to 8 teams. The committee said we're staying at four. I doubt if the WAC somehow was FBS again in say, 2028, that the contract would be amended to give them a piece of the pie.
