Crosstalk from Twitter (Dudley)
Which opt-outs are going to hurt the most?
(First, I’ll point out that those opting out are fine young men who are going to rep UAB well in whatever field they choose!)
Losing Watkins AND Mitchell will hurt...
Losing Jordan Smith will hurt the most. How does an opponent find a 6’7” 225-lb EDGE on the scout team to drill against? How do you prep for the reach of a guy that size in swim moves and punch-slaps?

If I had to guess. Alex Wright and Kelle Sanders will be the edge rushers. Is Justin Thomas gonna play inside or outside at 6’5?
I’ve moved on from hoping guys come back, be it Jrs or SRs. When you look across college football and see so many kids who’ve graduated and are returning, it’s destroying opportunities for 2021 HS Grads. What we would lose in experience, we could make up for in talent if we hit the transfer portal and dig through unsigned recruits. I hope to see some real effort there.
Watkins had zero dropped passes this season. It’s a tie between him and Smith regarding impacts on games.

Yeah, I worry about the impact on this year’s class of freshmen, too. But more guys are opting out than I anticipated, so hopefully the impact won’t be as bad.

We already saw we can survive without Watkins. Smith is really tough to replace.
I’m sure Clark and company have some contingency plans in place and expected a certain number of players to not return. I really hope we are giving the transfer market a thorough look.

Justin Thomas will be on the edge. Was told they think he could be as good or better than Jordan Smith. Time will tell on that. Wouldn't be surprised to see Alex Wright move inside.

Maybe not a starter but I thought Nikia Eason had a nice season.

Kris Moll announced he's returning. Big for next year's defense to keep him around.

No doubt! That made me fist-pump when I heard that. He will be a monster next year!
