UTSA 28
HALF

The good thing for the Green is that UTSA appears to still just be Jackson (who is on fire tonight), Wallace (who is having a rough game) and a bunch of spares. Can't overlook the fact that Jackson can win games by himself though.

Man, Jackson is fun to watch. If he and Wallace are both on it’s tough for anyone to win. Relying on one or two great players is tough to make a championship team out of but can end a championship teams season come tourney time.

Two years ago we beat them 96-88 at home. In that game Jackson had 46 and Wallace had 26.

Two nights later they won at Marshall 116-106 in OT. In that game Jackson had 30 and Wallace had 45.

So for that road trip as sophomores Jackson averaged 38 a game and Wallace averaged 35.5 a game.

I’ve never seen anything like it. Jackson kind of reminds me of a poor man’s Chris Jackson aka Mahmoud Abdul Rauf. That Jackson is one of my all time favorite players. He used to TORCH UK. Me being a hater, that warmed my heart every time. I started wearing an LSU hat to work every night that I wasn’t wearing a Western hat. Just to make the UK fans annoyed. Plus the fact that I loved Dale Brown as a coach. One of my all time favorite college basketball coaches.

Love this story... except for the fact that I’m an LSU-hater (but that’s mostly because of baseball)

If we ran into each other I’d give you a little chin raise nod to a fellow hater.

Don’t know if you’re old enough to remember Dale Brown. If you can find an article on him he was an extremely interesting guy. Pretty sure he grew up very, very poor as a kid if I remember it right. That made him a champion of the underdog. His best teams at LSU were made up of junkyard dog players. Interestingly enough he had a team with the aforementioned Chris Jackson, a top 10 big recruit in Stanley Roberts and an all world recruit in Shaquille O’Neal. I don’t think that team made it past the second round.

His best teams went to the final four twice. The Jackson-Roberts-O’Neal team was not one of them. He gave UK their worst loss ever at Rupp Arena again ‘warming my heart’ allowing me to wear my purple LSU cap all night long following that win on the graveyard shift I was working. Some cussed me, others just shook their head. The Western fans of course laughed alongside with me.

I lost that ballcap on I-35 between Norman Oklahoma and Oklahoma City on my motorcycle. I had it screwed down tight and facing backwards but them damn Okie winds got me. I was out there for training and was riding up to OKC to watch Ben McDonald and Mike Mussina who were playing for the Rochester Red Wings at the time. Pretty sure Juan Gone was on that OKC 89ers squad.

I should write a book called “Confessions of a Hater”. If I ever do you’ll get an autographed copy of it.

I had to go to Norman for a bunch of work related training back then and in true hater fashion pulled against the Boomer Sooners every time I went to a game. Got to see some pretty good players at the Lloyd Noble Center in Norman. Danny Manning for Kansas. Stacey King and Mookie Blaylock for the Sooners. Saw them play LSU up in OKC at the Myriad Convention Center. Jose Vargas and Nikita Wilson off that squad.

I’ll most likely be lurking around this year’s CUSA basketball tournament, glad to compare notes on how to be a “hater” with a heart filled with love. It’s all about taking the high road to hate...

I love all my CUSA brothers and sisters!

(Although I am always willing to make well-justified exceptions... you know who you are, and if you don’t I’ll remind you when the appropriate time comes!)

UNCC hasn't been good at basketball for a long time, the narrative they are is now only strong with the over 50 crowd. UNCC in a futbol school.

Sorry to disappoint, but not close to 50 here. Also, at least we were good in basketball. 03-nutkick
