App State no longer needs an OC. Now that the rivals and 247 sites have tweeted it, Frank Ponce seems to be the guy. I love it.

Interesting move. Guess he didn't like working with Satt as much as App State.

He noticed that you can go from App's OC to a P5 OC in just one season.

Possibly, but I think it's more likely that he's much more likely to move up in the world as an OC at App than he is as a QB coach/passing game coordinator at Louisville. Frank and Satt go way back, so I can't imagine there's any sort of rift there.

Actually, he was viewed by some as Satt's right hand guy at App and they're definitely buds. Satt wanted Ledford and knew he wasn't going to get him unless he made him OC because he was already the OL coach at NC State. He knew he could make Ponce the QB coach and still get him. Ponce was responsible for Developing Taylor Lamb and quite frankly developing Zac Thomas in his younger days (which this may be a hot take to some but he was a better overall player in his younger days imo). Ponce is a creative offensive mind and while his position at App technically was somewhat of an offensive coordinator position before, he was not the main playcaller. That was Satt. Now, he's the guy. He gets a chance to show he can call plays and I would say as App fans with what we know about him, we feel confident he can do that. It was a blessing Tony Peterson left if this is what we ended up with. Very excited to see what he does with the next QB transition whether that be transfer Chase Brice or the young guns. Also, should see a fun offense under his playcall. Best hire Shawn has made imo.

Great hire, he was a big loss when he followed SS to Louisville, really good at developing qbs, just hope he stays for atleast a couple of seasons to bring stability back to the OC position.

Think he and Satt were very tight. I could see Satt pushing him to take this job. If he has the skills this could be the start of his OC career for a P5.

Although things aren't great in Louisville there is no rift at all between Frank & Scott. Shawn did a great selling job on the opportunity to run his own offense and call plays.

It will be interesting to see if Clark actually lets him run his own offense, telling him what he wants to hear in Jan is different than actually letting him do it in Oct.

He was a QB Coach and Passing Fame coordinator at Louisville. Now he gets control of the offense, which incidentally is a derivative of the offense he's been scheming and planning since 2014. So he can hit the ground running with many of his own recruits, not rely on getting his guys in or his own offense installed, and be in a relatively high visibility position for a G5 school.
Win-win for everyone involved really.

Clark was the run game coordinator and Ponce the pass game coordinator from 2016 to 2018. Ponce will likely have free reign to do what he wants because his offense is what App State has been doing. In my mind, thats why this hire makes much more sense than Peterson. Peterson was just a play caller, which didn't work well in my opinion. Ponce will be running his system with his guys and I think Clarke will trust him enough for a measure more of autonomy.

Ponce's title at UL was only QB coach since Scott had to make Ledford the full time OC to get him away from NC State. We all know Ponce was more involved than the title suggests, but it is a big step up in terms of title for his resume.

His offense and ours are the exact same so no issue there.

Troy still needs an OC and we now need a WR coach as well.

Of course the offense is what Clark wants to run, but it remains the same one that Ponce was such a part of for 6 years as passing game coordinator and helped to create. Frank was deeply involved in putting the offense together knows exactly what it is and isn't.
