If Prater has to get to Ridder level of accuracy, he must be a train wreck. Thank god Young can jump 10' or there might not have been any completed passes in the Peach bowl. Is he really that bad? Can it be fixed?

I have a feeling that's WHY it is so bad...his throwing mechanics were gnarly in high school, and they may be trying to correct it a bit to help with his delivery times, because he looked like Byung Hyun Kim in the backfield throwing the ball for Wyoming and threw a ton of pop flies instead of darts. I had a coach tell me that there was a reason why there weren't a ton of throws on his highlight films...exceptional athlete and runner, but passing form and accuracy needed some work apparently. I never saw him play in high school so I'm just taking the word of some guys in my network down there who did.

The D4 competition he faced in HS was a bit forgiving and he was often just the best athlete on the field. He’s always been a development project IMO regardless of his high rating. Yeah, if anyone thought Munchie had some funky mechanics....I haven’t heard how far the staff has come with working on changing those.

Agreed. That's what I've been saying since the day he signed. A lot of people got a little too excited by his high rating. He was a product of being the best player on the field against lower level competition. I'll be mildly surprised if he ever lives up to his billing. I think it's a little easier to get overrated as a QB, because it takes more than just being a good athlete to be successful. Take Corey Kiner for instance. It will be interesting to see how he turns out at LSU after facing Div III competition throughout his career. He doesn't have to throw the ball/read defenses/go thru progressions/etc. His success/failure will mainly be a result of how good of an athlete he is.

In comparing Ridder to Prater, I thought someone had mentioned that Ridder played in a higher Division in KY than the Div IV in Ohio that Prater played in.

Ridder played at St. X who plays in probably the best highschool football division in KY with teams like Trinity, Male, Manual. It'd be as close as possible to playing in the GMC. And I'd say a huge step up from whoever Wyoming played against.

Feel really good about linebacker and our secondary. Feel ok about defensive line. I'd feel great if sanders comes back. Offense needs to figure out left tackle and qb (hopefully ridder comes back).

It's crazy to say, but how we fill that LT void may play the largest role in our success next year.

That’s why I said Hudson was the biggest loss out of any of the potential losses this season. If Des left I figure Ben Bryant remains and I think he is a capable replacement. I can’t say that for Hudson’s replacement, based off what we currently have on the roster.

I am wondering if a Transfer may be an option at LT.

Starting Metz would be my last option at this point.

Ridder stepped in and took over as a RS Soph, so why can't the highest rated recruit we've ever gotten?

He was actually a RS Freshman but accounted for 3,017 yards and 25 touchdowns. This season with only playing 10 games instead of 13 he had 2,888 and 31 touchdowns. With 3 more games that would've been roughly 40 touchdowns and 3750 yards. We could probably get Ridder's RS Freshman season's level of play out of Prater at this point, but if this team wants to hit the heights its capable of, it'd obviously be preferable to keep Ridder or maybe Bryant who I still think has probably the best pure arm talent on the team. The difference is that basically the only other QB on the roster Ridder's first year was a tough as nails but not the greatest Hayden Moore.

Yep, everything I've heard is that Prater is a long ways off from making the impact that Ridder or Bryant likely would next year unless something changes significantly with his accuracy in short order. I saw him play in High School. I didn't notice anything super odd. Although, I don't have the eye that you have. I saw him make some downfield throws that made me think he could be a real prospect. This was before he and UC were connected. I made sure to get his name, because I thought for sure I'd hear it again. Sure enough, I did. To hear his accuracy is below the Ridder line really shocks me.

At one point in time I looked up the rosters of the teams he played. He rarely faced a defense that had 1 or 2 players that weighed over 200 lbs.

A) That would be great!

B) PLEASE, PLEASE, send Ridder to some former NFL quarterback camp to see if we can't get some downfield accuracy on his throws.

His release motion seemed slow - really deliberate and had a bit of a Munchie hitch in it when I watched him his junior year.

Speeding that up would be like speeding a golf swing with likely the same effects...going to cause accuracy problems unless you change some fundamental mechanics before hand.

Not sure how reliable it is but I heard awhile back that Lindauer was simply better than Prater in practice so I've never really been convinced that the QB2 position is decided after Ben. Don't sleep on Brady Lichtenberg either.

By all accounts he was one of the best two or three QB's at the Army bowl. He's got a hitch in his delivery but it certainly doesn't look like anything that can't be fixed.

Honestly, having coached against Lichtenburg for 4 years and watching real tape on Prater and Lindauer...I think Brady is every bit the QB as the other two right now depending on their progression since high school. Brady looks a lot like Ben Bryant out of high school, he can make every throw in the bag and has sneaky athleticism. I was very happy to hear he had chosen Cincinnati...almost as happy as I was to know he won't be playing for St. Johns anymore.

It feels like every year in college football an unheralded recruit like Lindauer beats out the uber-athletic kid with no accuracy to go on to have a great career.

Yep, seems to be a lot of contradictory speculation on Ridder out there. I had to laugh at this comment from a Notre Dame board which has a guy speculating that Ridder might transfer there which i'm guessing is some offshoot of Kelly leaving and Fickell going to ND. Comment after ND got a Wisky transfer qb:

One of my predictions finally pans out! It’s been like five years; I had to be right about something eventually.

Assuming he has recovered from injury, I think he’s the overwhelming favorite to start the season as QB1 next year, particularly if Clark is done for good. Pyne has strong career-backup vibes (he’s teeny and has a very weak arm; it’s like a lesser version of Tommy Rees the quarterback) and Buchner played one year of high school football against low-level competition. If he doesn’t start game 1, I’m guessing it’s because Desmond Ridder became available or something rather than somebody else from the roster.

So i guess that leads to another question of this Covid waiver, are guys who play in post season all star games or workouts not eligible to return? I haven't seen anything on this covered, but i'd assume if you received no consideration or agent representation it's similar to basketball? My guess is there are always going to be openings for guys who are good somewhere even if they had to hit the transfer portal because they couldn't go back to their original team.

It's crazy to say, but how we fill that LT void may play the largest role in our success next year.

Yep...to me that won't make a big impact in most of our conference games, but it will absolutely be the difference between having a chance to win out or not.

Yeah, I don't think it's crazy to say at all to say OT and QB are easily the biggest ?s on the team right now. Hopefully Ridder comes back and solves one of them and we can find a transfer with our last scholly to help with the OT situation. It's kind of shame because I can see strong cases for both Hudson and Harper (assuming he goes too) to come back which would actually make OT one of the strongest positions on the team rather than the most vulnerable (if Ridder comes back). Oh well, I respect their decisions, thank them and wish them good luck. Don't forget that both Hudson and Harper had unconventional careers here. Let's find the best next man in!

I've been hyping Beavers a lot here during the last half of the season so I'm very pleased that he's coming back. I expect some big plays out of him next year.

Does anyone know about Blake Bacevich. I know he got hurt last year but he would be someone I think would be able to play in at the Edge for Sanders if he leaves.
