Question about basketball schedules.
I apologize in advance for beginning behind on times but. C an some one explain to me why we are only playing teams in the west and why are we playing each opponent 4 times. I know The Rona has messed a lot of this up, but please don’t tell me this is permanent.

Its temporary and caused by the Rona.

The long and short of this is that Covid messed up finances for everyone by taking crowds away from games and hurt on the donation front. The money is not the same right now, so it makes sense to limit travel wherever possible. The original plan was to try and play a regular schedule, but that involved a lot of flying, which not everyone was comfortable with.

The rest is Covid itself. Unlike football, where 3 cases of Covid won't interrupt games (Unless its the Championship game or something) A single case on a basketball team could cause an entire team to be quarrantined for contact tracing. There is a high likelihood of postponed games. Because of that it makes sense to play Divisonal only in 2 game series, so if say ULM has an outbreak and has to miss a weekend, the league is only finding makeup dates for one potential opponent instead of two.

Both Women's Soccer and Volleyball used a similar approach. Baseball and Softball are set to vote on their format in the next few days, though there is some protection there since those teams already play series against each other.

To give you an idea on how weird this year has been, Arkansas State has not faced Georgia Southern in a single Athletic competition since February. We missed each other in football, and the divisional scheduling means the only crossover games you play are in the League Tournament
