What ACC rivalries would you like to see South Carolina renew in football?
Basketball??

Just curious.

Basketball: North Carolina (Eddie Fogler really put a wrench in the Pepsi (or Food Lion?) Tournament of Champions contest to kick off the season - I miss that. The scenario was a final four matchup that usually ended with USC vs. North Carolina) - I don't think Odom would mind getting back to playing the Heels.

Football: Florida State (got killed by them often before USC joined the SEC) - but I envy Clemson due to their intense ACC rivalry) - having trouble with Tommy Bowden (Clemson coach) lately - so it might be good we don't have to play them.

Good question, btw 04-bow

Thanks :)
BTW, what are your thoughts about the UVa football game? Would you like to continue the football series with the Cavaliers or not? Are the Cavaliers an old football rival for South Carolina??

After the beating we got in Charlottesville last year - plus the hiring of Al Groh - I think I'll pass on playing them after this year. I am not sure if there was a rivalry with UVa - I was born in 1972 - so I wouldn't have known anyway firsthand.

In basketball, we barely beat UVa up at their place in the NIT opening game last year (make that 2 years ago?) - and I will enjoy avoiding them for awhile.

I do remember playing Georgia Tech in football while I was a student at USC (90s) - and enjoyed those games. But I don't think I would want to play them next year. I think in basketball GaTech would be a good game.

Hmm, RaptorCox, you might want to check this link out. I really didn't know much about South Carolina vs UVa, but doing a search on yahoo brought up this interesting tidbit from the official site of the South Carolina Gamecocks.
Click on the link here: <a href='http://uscsports.ocsn.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/090202aaa.html' target='_blank'>http://uscsports.ocsn.com/sports/m-footbl/.../090202aaa.html</a>.

I thought it a little odd that South Carolina would play UVa again once the Gamecocks joined the SEC, but I guess there really was a rivalry there.
Very interesting! :ninja:

Quote:This Saturday's USC-UVA matchup renews a rivalry that was once a yearly affair when the Gamecocks were members of the Atlantic Coast Conference (1953-1971). Carolina leads the all-time series 20-11-1. The two teams first met in 1912, with UVA winning 19-0 in Charlottesville. The Cavaliers won the first six meetings, before USC ran off a nine-game winning streak of its own from 1952-1960. At Charlottesville, USC leads 9-8-1. This will be USC's first game in Charlottesville since 1986, when UVA won 30-20. The last time the two squads met on the football field was in 1987, when USC posted a 58-10 victory in Columbia.

Thanks for the link 04-bow

I would like to see USC play UNC in football and basketball. The football series was a pretty good one in the 80s if I remember correctly.

Yeah, I can't remember them, but it seems like we played USC from about 1986-91 in football and off and on in the years before that. I'd like to see us bring that rivalry back - even if it's in baseball.
