They're paying how big of a buyout to Herman so they can hire the guy Washington fans called "Seven Win Sark"?

RE: Texas Shocker
I thought after the end of the season when the AD said he was staying, he was staying.

Sarkasian is a definite downgrade. This is how programs go in the gutter. Changing just to change. Somebody needs to be fired. Maybe its Chris Del Conte.

They fired Akers to get the totally incompetent David McWilliams.
They fired Mackovic for an upgrade with Mack.
They fired Mack for the worst coach in Texas history-Charlie Strong.
Now they fire Hermann for someone with a 46-35 record at Washington and USC. Just crazy.

Sounds like money people put the pressure on CDC and he caved.

RE: Texas Shocker
Texas was 3 plays from 10-0 this season. They fumbled on the 1 down 2 with 30 seconds left against TCU, lost in OT to OU and gave up a TD to fall 3 behind ISU with 1:30 left and missed a long FG by a foot from sending it into OT.

Of course they won 2 OT games and so were 2 plays from 5-5.

I believe Herman's descending recruiting rankings and his lack of engagement with the BMD's did him in.

$15 million for Herman.

$10 million for his assistants

"Texas will owe Herman about $15 million to buy out the last three years of his contract.

The Longhorns will owe about another $10 million to buy out the remaining contracts for his assistants, which are guaranteed, multi-year deals.

In May 2019, the university's regents approved a two-year extension for Herman that runs through the 2023 season.

The last two years of the deal would have paid Herman $6.5 million in 2022 and $6.75 million in 2023."

RE: Texas Shocker
I'm not sure how Sark is doing with his alcohol problems, but regardless Austin may not exactly be the best place for a guy a history of health issues in that regard. Not just from the nightlife there, but I imagine that stress exasperates substance abuse issues; Texas is probably the highest pressure job in the nation, that would be a disaster waiting to happen even if he does well on the field.

How does a guy go 3-0 against top 10 teams at Houston and not do much at Texas?

RE: Texas Shocker
Sarkisian turned Texas down?

David Pollack is reporting that Sarkisian turned down the job.

https://twitter.com/davidpollack47

"I see and have heard that Sark is the guy at Texas and now I have heard that Sark turned the job down."

I get firing Tom Herman. He had worn out his welcome at UT. But to hire Sarkisian? That's a step down.

Great recruiting the last few years. Got out-recruited in Texas by OU and A&M this year. Of course its a self-fulfilling prophecy. The endless rumors of him being fired kills recruiting.

Give it 2 years and I think you’ll see Steve turn the Dabo/Saban Big 2 conversation into the Dabo/Saban/Sarkisian Big 3.

I think Ryan Day might make it a Big 3 before that.
