Cincinnati and Chick-fil-A
Before any Bearcats jump all over this post, this isn't at all meant to be a slight towards Cincinnati's emblem, but my 5th grade daughter, who doesn't really like football and rarely watches it, was actually watching today with me and noticed something I never did. When she saw that Cincinnati was playing in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl, she noted how similar Cincinnati's emblem actually is to the Chick-fil-A symbol. Apologies to anyone who already knew of the similarity, as it just never occurred to me until she brought it up, but I told her I'd post something about it and give her credit. lol

I always think of Memphis as the “Chicks,” after the old minor league baseball team.

I always thought "Chicks" was a weird name for a men's baseball team. Kinda like the University of Delaware "Blue Hens".....that's pretty weird too.....

Beat me to it. I can still see Bo Jackson in a Memphis Chicks uni from my childhood. I thought it was cool as hell back then.

Wasn't there a Memphis Blues minor league team? When I played American Legion baseball we played in Memphis in the regionals, and I think it was called Blues Field, or something like that. The B-17 bomber the Memphis Belle used to be on display at that park.

Yes. They played from 1968-’76 at Blues Field (later called McCarver Stadium) located at the Mid-South Fairgrounds, next to the Liberty Bowl.

Thanks. It was 1974 when I played there. We won the regionals and went on to the World Series played that year out in Oregon.

Never thought about it. But I don't think about Cincinnati much. They are pretty similar.

RE: Cincinnati and Chick-fil-A
The following is a true story. Years ago, the Bearcats were playing Army at West Point. The year was about 2003 or 2004 and both UC and Army were at that time both in CUSA. This was before UC and USF and Louisville were invited into the Big East. In any event, Army at the time was not a good football team. They had lost about 22 consecutive CUSA games. My son and I traveled from northern Virginia up to West Point to see the game. Truth be told, I wanted my son, who was about age 16 at the time, to see West Point and perhaps spark his curiosity about possibly considering West Point and the military for his college and career. To make a long story short, Army beat UC that day to end its long conference losing streak, an embarrassing loss for my Bearcats but if you are going to lose, it's never too discouraging to lose to the wonderful young men who attend one of our nation's service academies. In any event, on the way back to Virginia, we stop at a Chick Fil-A in Maryland. We go up to the counter to order and the young man sees my C-Paw Bearcat hat with the logo you see above. He asks me, "Do you work for Chick Fil-A?" It was the low point of what was already a disheartening day and reminded me of how UC's profile had a long way to go. Ironically, about five years later, UC would go to both the Orange Bowl and the Sugar Bowl under Brian Kelly after Mark Dantonio had led UC into the Big East. The C-Paw logo is now widely associated with our school and has become a fairly popular logo for licensed merchandise.

My son never considered West Point. He was admitted to the U.S. Air Force Academy and graduated in 2011. He is now a Major in the Air Force and flies KC-135 airborne refueling tankers all over the Pacific Rim.
