Just a solid fun half. Finally have players willing to drive to the hole so that opens up the 3’s even more. UTSA looks really demoralized but need to not let up on them.

Not only drive to the basket, but make the bunny!

Good start to the second half. 56-30 Rice. Fiedler with a couple bunnies and Olivari with a nice stepback.

RE: UTSA vs Owls MBB
Still want to see Olivari make the extra pass a bit more. It's a small complaint when we have such a big lead, but on that last possession he opted for a contested 3 instead of making the quick pass back to Abercrombie. Thought Abercrombie would have had the better look. Still, 66-36 Rice.

Anybody know if Sheffield got hurt yesterday? He's the lone guy that hasn't played so far today.

Last 2 minutes pretty ugly for the Owls with bench players. Starters back in to stem the tide.

Still time for them to turn it around this year, but if you're a UTSA fan, you have to be really frustrated. Two guards in Jackson and Wallace who can legit get you 30+ any given night and no real success to show for it so far.

Roadrunners pull to within 20 with 4:29 left. Owls look like they have gotten bored with this one. Need to finish out stronger than they’ve played the last several minutes .

UTSA doing the classic "keep the starters in and press like hell to lose by 10 instead of 25."

Yep

But I’ll take 4 basketball Owl wins in ~24 hrs anytime.

The problem with the ESPN+ stream is that Nate Griffin would not shut up. Ever. Not for one nanosecond.

Right, let's not lose sight of the goal - winning.

RE: UTSA vs Owls MBB
Good performance that was made closer by some UTSA runs against our bench. 20 for Mullins, 18 for Fiedler. I like that in the first game Evee and Olivari led the team in scoring and that in the second, in a game where our offense still executed well, two other players carried the load. That kind of balance is important.

I liked what I saw from Poteat even if it was only a couple of minutes. I'm sure they're working him up to full fitness so it might be a few games before we see him in longer stretches. I still love the way Havsa runs the offense when he's on the floor, and Abercrombie was solid.

Sheffield still looks a bit lost at times, not entirely unexpected from a freshman with his body type.

I'm assuming that Hutchins in redshirting since we didn't see him this weekend, and there doesn't seem to be any sign of an injury.

RE: UTSA vs Owls MBB
Congrats to both programs (men + women).

Pera has done a nice job of recruiting guys to fill in for all the transfer outs and adapting to the talent he gets to work with year to year, appears to have a decent eye for talent too. Glad to see guys like Mullins stick around and lead the team like he did today. Let's see if we can keep this backcourt + Fiedler into next season, but for now a 2-0 start to conference play at 8-2 in the first 10 games is great news.

This is one season in which Rice's small home crowds won't stand out.

RE: UTSA vs Owls MBB
2-0 conference start for the first time since the 2006 conference season.

We were also the only men's team to sweep a conference series this weekend.

We'll certainly take our lumps at times this year as the conference schedule won't be easy. This series and the USM one were probably the two easiest on paper entering the conference season. But I wouldn't have predicted two wins this week, and certainly not a winning margin of 12 points a game for the two contests.
