Won some money on this game. That team is not better than us.

These high scoring games are fun to watch. Hopefully we can go on a little run here.

Evee and Olivari are a really good 1-2 combination - maybe the best backcourt of guards we've had since 2016-17 (Evans and Jackson - or even Koulechov if you want to include him as a guard)? Let's hope they gel together and stay together at Rice for two more years. UTSA has kept onto their two guards in Jackson and Wallace. No reason we can't do the same.

Nice game by Fiedler too. We're starting 4 sophs and a junior now so I think we can keep getting better.

+1000

If our retention was better we'd be so solid in conference, and more

If the transfer rules weren’t a joke our retention would be better.

FYI. Kenpom had UTSA at 174 and Rice at 256.

Defense was still shoddy, but good enough down the stretch to get the win (big steal by Mullins for the dagger). I'm a little worried that the starters played so many minutes with a game tomorrow. But we'll deal with that when we have to.

Agreed on all points!

UTSA starters - 66.5% of the minutes.
Owl starters - 81% of the minutes.

...if I did the math correctly. Still drinking Mimosas today! Happy New Year to all!

I thought Fieldler showed flashes of potential last year. Glad to see it start to really show.

Without the transfers from the last 8-9 years, imagine the kind of program we would have. What a mess.....

Murphy is now starting at UVA, Peterson is starting for U$C and Parrish is starting for USD. But I'm not sure if Evee, Olivari and Abecrombie aren't better as a trio (plus Fiedler has really improved as the others have said). And Mullins was better than Murphy and Peterson as a freshman too.

Oh well, no reason to speculate. The two teams get to lace it up again tomorrow.

Mike needs to do the research on this. Olivari had 35 last month against HBU. Evee with 36 today. I wonder when the last time we had two different guys go for 35 or more in a game in a single season?

FWIW, both Murphy and Peterson are shooting significantly better from the floor than they did in their time at Rice.

Malik Osborne averaging over 20 minutes a game for Florida State. Millora-Brown has started 5 of 7 for Vandy.

Looking at the fact book, perhaps just one other time is the correct answer?

In 1970, Gary Reist scored 35 points at TCU and Tom Myer scored 36 points in a game at home vs Arkansas.

Really, I could have sworn Darden and Reynolds did it at least once in 1974 or '75.

Might as well just continue this thread?

20-8 Owls with about 12 minutes to play in 1H.

Owls shooting almost 67%. UTSA at about 29%.

It's an extremely small sample size, but Poteat looks like a good passer out of the post. And also seems like he uses his body well when screening, which is something we've been missing in a big.

Interestingly Clark hasn't played yet. I think there was probably a consensus that he wasn't a starter, but I think he still offers value off the bench, especially when we're playing back to back games every weekend.

We've executed on offense, but much more impressed with how much better we've been defensively. Energy looks better and much fewer wide open looks. 37-22 Rice with 4:18 left.

46-28 Owls with 1:05 to play. Owls ball coming out of the TO.

Olivari fouled on 3 pt attempt with 16.4 to play, makes 2 of 3.

48-28 at the half.

RE: UTSA vs Owls MBB
Mullins with 14 pts, 5 reb, 2 ast. Really fun seeing him back in his freshman year form.

Should add that it's good to see Abercrombie shoot with confidence. He might force a few but at 6-8, when he's shooting well he can basically always get his shot off.
