Not surprising given what's going on with our football team, but this puts our WVB behind the 8 ball once the actual season does resume, presumably in January...

Only thing I've seen so far:

Sunday, Mar. 7 vs North Texas
Monday, Mar. 8 vs North Texas

Sunday, Mar. 14 at UTEP
Monday, Mar. 15 at UTEP

Feb. 21 and 22 vs UAB.

Bayleigh Minor - the 14-year-old daughter of ex-Owl NCAA TJ champion Claudia (Haywood) Minor (her father was an NCAA champion as well in the 400 meters for Baylor) might be one of the top recruits in the Class of 2025. She's now 5-11 1/2 and plays club ball for Houston Skyline.

But she'll have to choose between volleyball and track and field (she's a national junior champion in the 400 meters). I was talking to Claudia the other day and it sounds like she will be going to high school at Fort Bend Christian (where her dad Dion is the track coach).

Rice gets 26 points in Coaches Poll. Puts Rice at "#33" . WKU in at #25. Texas is #2. A&M and Texas State also got votes. Obviously some schools had a fall season so that factored into rankings somewhat.

WKU should be better than #25 since they bring everyone back. I still think we'll be better this year despite the loss of Cunningham, Martinez and Morgan. Given the defensive stud transfer and our strong incoming class (with one of the Top 10 liberos in the country), our defense should be much improved...and if Bechelmeyer continues to improve her efficiency we could have one of the best offensive front lines in the country. I do worry about our blocking ability with the loss of Morgan, but I trust Volpe will focus on this during practice.

My shock is how can Stanford be ranked #3 in the country preseason when they lost 5 of their 8 starting rotation players, including three 3-time all-americans at the critical positions of setter, libero and outside hitter (2-time national POY)? Yes, I know they have the #1 ranked recruiting class two years running, but still-- all but a couple of those players have seen little or no playing time at the college level.

Looks like CUSA will only be playing a 12 game conference schedule. Basically 2 games vs each team in division. So Rice won't play WKU unless they meet in the conference tournament.

Rice will be at SMU for two matches Jan. 29 and Jan. 30.

Feb 7 and 8 vs LA Tech.
Feb 14 and 15 at Southern Miss.

Going to assume that means Feb 28 and March 1 at UTSA.

Hope we have some solid competition opening weekend.
