Honestly, no idea what to expect today other than rust. Not playing in 3 weeks and not practicing for party of that, we should expect plenty of rust. Also gotta be worried if any individuals won't be the same because they're still trying to get back to full strength. As Browns fans know from watching Myles Garrett sucking wind on the sidelines, being an excellent athlete doesn't mean you bounce back right away.

Well Beck is making up for lost time. 4 points 5 rebs in his first 2 minutes.

Pretty bad telecast. Pippen got hit with a tech going into the commercial. We didn't see the free throws nor have they mentioned it happened.

More worried about how we are playing now. I thought we had this one. Shows how much I know.

Hope O'Neal learned a few things this game. Kent's going to need him. When he doesn't score off the bench, Kent struggles. As usual, this is not a 3-point shooting team. Hot-cold at best.

I think the MAC has Pippen figured out. Seemed clear that Akron had the plan to get under his skin because everyone knows if you get him flustered he'll probably pick up a tech and he'll try to do too much and make bad decisions. During the first half, Marshall from Akron sort of stood in Pippen's way as he was walking after a play. Of course Pippen took exception and gave him a little shove and had to be separated. In the second half Marshall fouled Pippen going for a rebound and Pippen shoved him off him... Got a tech. Sendy took him out after the tech (I think Marshall came out too). A few minutes later Pippen came back in during a free throw... And immediately Akron put Marshall on the block next to him and he locked Pippen's arm fighting for position for the free throw and the refs had to talk to the two of them (might've been a double foul called. The announcers weren't involved in the game enough to tell us)

Since Marshall has never played against Pippen, my takeaway is Akron's coaches told him screw with this guy. You'll get him off his game. I know at this point it's a lost cause... But I really wish he would mature.

The transition game has been a big part of the teams success thus far. Went away from it in the second half.

Gave up too many offensive rebounds.

Plus every team has a game that they have shooting struggles. They found high percentage shots, but they were not falling.

Still finding themselves especially with TB returning.

After five years at Kent, Pippen still doesn't have even one solid post move. As the best FT shooter on the team he should be posting up all game long .... but he can't/won't. Jacking 3s at this point in his career just doesn't cut it. (Solid rebounding game, however).

I think the fact that he hasn't practiced in two years (if the announcers actually knew what they're talking about) would help explain that. It's a lot easier to work on jump shots if you're not practicing with the team than post moves and post moves generally require a teammate getting you the ball in a good spot. If you're not practicing with your teammates it's tougher to have that chemistry. Tough situation because he's probably only got so many games left on those knees so you don't want to risk him in practice.

But I agree with you. I really wish he operated out of the post and not on the perimeter.

I understand your frustration but this was not a normal game. Tough to get on a coach for losing a game after 2 practices and 0 games in three weeks. That's the crappy reality we have to live with this year. If we played them when we were scheduled to I really liked our chances.

C'mon now. He's developed many. I think JAvery is a perfect recent example so stop with the cheap shots. At 6-9, 240-pounds 5-yr senior, I think DP needs to shoulder the responsibility for having no inside game.

As for losing double-digit leads, to Akron, that's been done before by more than one Kent coach, as well. (Remember All Fisher's 3-pointer at the buzzer after Kent blew a double-digit lead in less than 3 minutes?). Only this time Kent didn't win in the end. Another useless cheap shot.

Losing on the road to a rival by 6 ... after one-day notice and 2-days of practice ... after not playing for over 2 weeks. Exhale, brother. That's explainable/understandable. ...

Being one of the top 10 players in the league and having such a weakness is something different. Not looking for JHall, JWhorton post moves, just something good enough to score or draw a foul when needed.

Yes, it's a game Kent probably should have won, ... but.

hats off to akron.. they played well.. many great defensive plays

god, those announcers were awful.

We lost for one reason only. The inability to contain their 5'8 PG. Kid torched us.

Does anyone else find it surprising that TK Smith isn't in the rotation? Really have a hard time believing he couldn't be giving us something.

Don't think he's injured. But the better question is who does he take minutes from: Pippen, Justyn, O'Neal, Bainbridge if it has been decided he's a mismatch 4. If he's a 3, then probably needs to work on handle, defense and 3-point shooting.

He's a talent, but my guess is he's not ready.

I'm not sure but this being a mess of a season it does feel like we might be wasting a chance to get him some game experience.

Speaking of getting young guys experience in a free year. I recently saw that Meechie Johnson Jr graduated early and enrolled at OSU with the intention of playing the rest of the season. Really smart move. Everyone gets a free year so as a HS Sr he's making sure he gets an edge from that year too.
