I was thinking the same thing...

UNO was here once before, and they had to drop out of the SBC. They don't belong back in. They were a great program back in the 80's and 90's, but certainly not anymore.

I would say no to UNO, we need all sports members going forward. I am all for adding Southern Miss if Texas State or ULM left. Southern Miss would be close to several schools to travel with them.

Honestly I can't imagine anyone would even want to realign at this point even as much as I and other like to talk about it. The Sun Belt is on the rise and the money will be better than anything the CUSA probably could offer at the next phase of TV contract renewal, even if they do split the conference into 2. If we are going to realign poaching teams from CUSA is the best bet. Southern Miss seems to be everyone's favorite choice and then if we need another university that's when debates will start.

RE: Conference USA hit rock bottom in 2020 (Article)
Guys, calm down. UNO was just an example, and an easy one since they are currently in a collapsing SLC and were once in the SBC. It was also to keep us at the 10/12 model we currently have if TxSt and UTA were to leave for the new WAC. It is all speculation and internet fodder, since football season is over and basketball is now a weekend sport.

And for those that don’t remember, or weren’t around for it, UNO dropped out of the SBC after Katrina when they had to rebuild. They have since rebuilt their programs back to the D1 level, good for them. They didn’t leave the SBC looking for greener pastures like the last group did.

At the end of the day, I don't think we'll see the SBC expand at all.

It will only happen if CUSA gets raided, or if the SBC gets raided and we have to add insurance from CUSA or the Independents.

This! Marketz destroyed CUSA. Quality football has boosted SBC. We absolutely do not need to make the same mistakes.

Since y’all didn’t like my UNO offer, how about Belmont???

Again, this is for the scenario of TxSt and UTA leaving, so we add USM and an oly sport school to keep the 12/10 lineup.

If your going to get rid of Texas St and UTA then I would like to get ride of Little Rock and just add 3 full members from c-usa and go with a 12 member all sports conference.

Over on the CUSA board they're discussing if the SBC is better than AAC this year.

They make a comparison to the SBC teams on wins and y’all come out on top for sure. I don’t think the SBC has the issues they have because y’all never went after mArKeTz and just wanted good teams.
What actually happened was most of CUSA left and those left behind grabbed raided the SBC and FCS and then the SBC went largely after whomever was left. The SBC schools invested in their football programs while CUSA has various programs trying Football by Osmosis. BTW , Wow on Marshall firing Doc Holladay. CUSA is also proving that maybe 14 is the wrong number especially at the G5 level.

We've been lucky in a sense that we were able to seamlessly integrate Georgia Southern, App, Coastal, Georgia State, and Texas State into the league without much difficulty. Even though Georgia State, Texas State, and even South in their early years of football had to do a lot building, the other teams in the league picked up the slack and won in their place.

We've also successfully managed to develop rivalries within the league, even if parts of them seem forced (Such as the GS/GSU game) by the schools themselves, we're beginning to see growth in that area, and the fact that UL and Coastal hate each other right now is overall good for everyone else.

CUSA has been such a mess that if we had struggled integrating the new programs as well, I think the East schools in both leagues would have quickly gone out on their own and left the west schools to pick up the pieces.

I think that one thing that is greatly understated on here is how close we came as a league to folding twice. It might have happened in the first part of this decade had CUSA not become dead set on picking up the Florida Schools when taking an AState/UL/Troy combo would have essentially killed the league.
I can promise you despite ADs forcing a trophy, we don't like each other.

No reason to go to 12 football members due to CFP payout. Only reason I’m keeping 12 oly sports is due to UALR staying. If both UALR and UTA left, I wouldn’t replace them and just stay at 10 full members.

Only So Miss, Marshall, Louisiana Tech, and WKU line up well with the Sun Belt with the exception of maybe WKU. Small town traditional campus with football first. IMO looking at any of the remaining would be falling into the same Marketz trap.

It's difficult to compete when recruiting against the lure of a large city with certain recruits and quite honestly we shouldn't be interested in those interested in the distraction. But when you join a league you're marketing the same brand with no way to separate yourself. Your instantly lending your cred giving them more ammunition. Not interested.

Fair point. I think Southern Miss is the only team most would want.

Yes, and also as important, Southern Miss would actually want to be with the current SBC members. The others, especially the puppy killers, are so arrogant they want nothing to do with the SBC. Let them rot in hell.

If La Tech wants to move up to the Sun Belt I'd suggest they start by investing in a quality on field product.
