Cincy didn't not embarrass themselves, not in the least.

But the bottom line is that for the third straight year, the top G5 team lost their NY6 game to an also-ran in a P5 conference. Georgia was the 4th place SEC team this year. LSU was the 4th-place SEC team when they beat UCF two years ago. That's two undefeated G5 champs beaten by also-rans. Memphis was beaten by 3rd place Penn State last year.

If G5 champs can't beat teams that finished 3rd or 4th in a P5 conference, that suggest we aren't missing anything by not having them in the playoffs. It certainly doesn't suggest we need them to be *automatically* included. If the top G5 champ is really exceptional, worthy of being ranked in the top 8, like UCF in 2017 and Cincy this year, then include them. But don't make it automatic.

If we're going to go that route then the Pathetic 12 shouldn't get an automatic berth either. How did Oregon do?

I think the point is that Georgia was down 11 key players and was the 4th place team in the SEC behind Alabama, A&M, and Florida and that the Bearcats not only lost, but didn't do to Georgia what Oklahoma did to Florida another school without any of its starting receivers and without a few other players.

Does any team which won any other conference prove their right to be in the CFP by losing to any conference's #4 finisher? No way Jose, not now, not ever! If Cincinnati had beaten Georgia by 10 or better yet 14 I think they would have a case. What they proved is that they were equal to the SEC's #4 team on a day when that #4 team was down 11 players. Now that's reality.

Georgia was only down 6-7 guys; several of the guys there not going to be available opted back in. Fwiw Cincinnati was down 5 starters and a key backup defensive lineman- two of the starters were All-Americans (James Wiggins, Ahmad Gardner).

The SEC had an amazing bowl record, the only OOC games they played. All nine games were against CFP ranked teams and they won seven, including going 4-1 in NY6/Playoff bowls.

Second straight year the SEC has won 4 NY6/Playoff games.
