Hard to become rivals with someone when every Fam base loves to go to San Marvelous.
San Marcos is the ****. I love Texas St. but I’m ready for them to hold up their end of the bargain. I definitely expected more from their baseball program by now. I still have faith in their massive upside.

TXST baseball won the conference 2 years ago. We were ready for a repeat last year and the season got cancelled. Everyone is back though and we're ranked 30th in BA preseason poll.

If the Sun Belt can keep progressing Texas state could be in a great position to separate themselves from the the G5 crowd in Texas. I would definitely stay the course and see how this things progress. Jumping in with the rest may provide instant rivals but if the ships sinking what good is it? Hopefully with two or three ranked teams coming into Bobcat Stadium it'll get some motors running.

Yea in years past I definitely wanted to join the CUSA Texas teams. Call me a changed man.

Just need to get series scheduled with UTEP, Rice, UTSA and UNT. Then beat their collectives butts every time y’all play. Be the choice for Texas’s next best and y’all will be pretty darn good.

Maybe Texas State AD should try to get games with SMU and Houston more. Forget the rest, aside from UTSA. That should develop with the right game or in time. Troy/South did.

Don’t really care about anyone else in particular. Conference road games especially always have the potential to be very tough.

I don't think UL and Southern are rivals yet. But the games with you are fun. Ya'll just haven't found a way to get under our skins like the the others.

So for football:

1. App
2. stAte
3/4. Troy/Coastal
5. ULM
6. South Al
7. Southern/GSU
8. Tx State

Everything else:
1. South Al
2a. stAte
2b. GSU - basketball
3. Troy
4. App
5/6. Southern/GSU remaining programs
7. ULM
8. TxState
9. UALR

I chuckle at Cajun fans who have ULM last on their list and say it isn't a rivalry. Those are the folks who melt down the most when you lose to the bunch from Monroe. Suddenly it matters then LOL.

I don't know if anything will ever top the football rivalry with Arkansas State. Both teams take incredible pleasure in beating the other.

App now is officially a rivalry because to be a rivalry, both teams must have success.

ULM will always be a rival whether Cajun fans want to admit it or not.

(just speaking football here.)

If you look at all sports, there has always been plenty of animosity between Louisiana and South Alabama.

I think some USC fans have a saying: "There's nothing better than beating Notre Dame; there's nothing worse than losing to UCLA." Either way you slice it, it's a rivalry.

CCU - gaining steam, surprised when the league added them but glad they’re here. Could easily be top 3 in a few years
USA - gave App their first conference beat down
ULM - in the West and no major conference implications between the 2 except for W’s and L’s
TxSt - see ULM except the Bobcats have yet to beat App

I agree with this list......

Probably because Troy has more of a dislike for South Alabama and UA's B team, as we like to call them (aka UAB). If Jax State somehow winds up in FBS, I'm sure we'll wind up with a rivalry with them again. They've really missed us.

I haven't made my list yet, but ULM will be last when I do. I'm not old enough to have any rivalry feelings with them. In my eyes, they haven't been good enough to grow any feelings of a rivalry and as you say success is a key component.. I know there has been close games played recently, but I just dont feel it. call it the "peer evaluation effect", i just made that up by the way.

Also, I DONT agree with your "ULM will always be a rival whether Cajun fans want to admit it or not", comment. The younger generation sees them different than the older folks. The more the 2 universities move in separate directions, tied with the current younger generation becoming the older generation things will have a different look for most of the fan base. Example, Mcneese was long ago once a strong rivalry for the older generation and now, you will be hard pressed to find a fan under 35-40 who cares anything about them. So to will be ULM!

RE: Rank Your SBC Rivals
For me, this is how I see it.
Football:
1) stAte - Games have post season meaning every year and Energy is high for both sides.
2) App. St. - Games have post season meaning every year. Energy is high on both sides.

3) Coastal - post 2020, wanna see where this goes, could become a good one. Coastal was with the group in #5 prior to 2020
4a) GS - Fans are so much alike, its building.
4b) Troy - we need to play more. they have good teams when we do.

5) USA, TXST and GSU - all about the same
6) ULM - its ULM

I'll play.....

Football:
1) stAte - I don't think many Cajun fans will disagree here. The two teams get their game faces on and play on the field will usually become nasty.

2) App. St. - Gotta pick someone at #2 and these games have been heated. Not quite the history we have with stAte, yet.

3) Troy - Because we have developed a good history and the games are usually fought hard.

4) GS & Coastal - No particular reason, but these games will become more heated in the future.

5) Everyone else - nothing against these folks, but these games don't get me too excited. Winning these games is like kissing your sister. Losing these games is like kissing your sister and she slips you the tongue.
