Can't really tell here...but it seems like he's opting out so he can actually live a little, rather than hole up and practice all day.

Though it sounds like per Brannen that Mason is going to be coming back shortly and expected to be a part of the rotation.

Good Lord. Unless he promises the other kid who will be in over his head a ton of minutes he’ll be gone, too.

This is fine....

RE: Rap out, Dou in?
I said something like this might happen with him/them a few weeks ago and I was pretty much told I was overreacting.

This one makes a little more sense. Sacrificing your life for a 2-5 team and not getting any reward for your hard work has to be frustrating. I'm sure no PT would be a little easier to accept if the guys in front of you were playing well.

Wasn’t Gabe the one who had high major big conference offers that we offered Mason to land? That’s just perfect.

This is turning into 2 monkeys trying to **** a football.

RE: Rap out, Dou in?
Some thoughts:
In my view if the current groups actually starts to win games then we know what guys should be here to build for the future.

Outside the chaos most of these roster changes are addition by subtraction.

Dou is a better fit for this team than Rap.

Firing this staff and starting over won’t be that much different than what this spring is going to look like anyway.

I actually miss Cronin’s “poor” recruiting strategy for the sake of stability. The last 9 years of Cronin had amazing stability with both his staff and roster. It lead to stagnation but I think we all would like that back after seeing what this staff has brought to the table.

UC probably starts winning now more then they lose of the next few weeks. I like the matchups and sometimes teams get better when you only have the guys that want to be there. 4 out 6 tells me this staff might turn it around. Anything less is yikes.

Season on the brink. 17 games to play and honestly a end of regular record 5-19 or less would not be a shock.

Time to fire Brannen will be late in year. Does anyone have Rick's phone number.

So basically this past year's recruiting class has now fallen apart and is almost a complete loss.

If that happened to Mick, a lot of people would be screaming for his firing.

If it had happened to Mick, it would have been during a non-pandemic season. I'm cutting Brannen a bit of slack based on the current circumstances. Doesn't mean I'm not concerned or disappointed with the way this season and roster are going. Not ready to call for his firing though.

Mick is 3000 miles away recruiting just fine. Who ******* cares.

I’ll worry about the guy we have to deal with now versus guys who used to be here.

After the X game my brother texted me to say to look on the bright side that we only lost by 8-9...had Bob been coaching this group of pu$$ies we’d have lost by 30 because he would have already kicked half of the team out of the program and we’d be playing all of the walkons.05-mafia

Silly to think that Covid isn't highly disruptive, but things haven't been looking good regardless. As far as replacing Brannen, I just don't feel like the top level boosters are ready to bankroll that move. In order to buy out Brannen and ante up for a Pitino-level coach is a 5 mil plus move.

This is kinda where I am. I’m willing to give him a pass this season, but I’m not very pleased with what I’m seeing and things better look better next season or I’m ready to move on. I will say I wouldn’t be upset if they did decide to make a move and fire him. I just don’t think they will and I’m ok with another year to see what happens.

Is Gabe Madsen returning to the team after Covid, or is he likely to transfer? The locker room clearly needs some leadership.

Like everyone, I'm disappointed with the team's play thus far in the season. That said, any discussion of replacing the coach after seven games in year two is just nonsense for many reasons. Not taking any responsibility off of the coach - it's his job to get this team to perform - but let's see how the season transpires and if things can improve. Looking at the combined first season and second season [seven games in] records of past regimes...

22-15 [.595] Brannen
24-17 [.585] Huggins
15-22 [.405] Cronin

Covid is highly disruptive, but it’s not as if they are only affecting the Bearcats. At some point you have to take a look at why these issues are happening here and be honest in your assessment. I know other teams are dealing with out outs and issues, but it’s not an excuse for the type of performances we have seen.

With that said, I’m still willing to see what happens the rest of this season and into next season but I’m definitely disappointed. I was happy with Brannen’s early recruiting and expected much more from him.

Really dissapointed that Gabe is leaving. I thought he was going to be the legit 3 point threat that this program has needed for some time. If it's due to playing time, I can't really blame him. It has to be hard to watch the guys that are getting minutes not be able to shoot, not play defense and throw the ball all over the arena.

I hope he comes back next year, but that tweet looks like he's gone.

If you really believe that those numbers are that meaningful, you must be calling for Brannen to get a contract extension and a raise.

Dude, congratulations! You win the hyperbole post of the day award. It's about perspective. Nothing more, nothing less. No one knew what kind of Bearcats career those coaches listed were going to have this early in their regimes. Again, it's CJB's job to get the team to play at a high level and he has to take responsibility for that.
