Duke's Mayo Bowl: Wake Forest vs Wisconsin
Anyone up for some morning football? Morning here in the Central Time Zone at least, as kickoff is at 11 AM here.
I am! An intriguing ACC vs B1G matchup in the Formerly Known as the Belk Bowl.
The oddsmakers have Wisky as a big 10-point favorite, but I'm not feeling that. Both have .500 records, but Wake went 4-4 against a tougher schedule, while 3-3 is a big letdown for usually-contending Wisconsin, so I do not expect much motivation. And, the game is in Wake's back yard.
Upset ...
Wake .............. 30
Wisconsin ........ 21

Piggybacking from the discussion from the Cheese-It Bowl thread, this bowl was formerly known as the:
Queen City Bowl (2002)
Continental Tire Bowl (2002–2004)
Meineke Car Care Bowl (2005–2010)
Belk Bowl (2011–2019)

I like Meineke Car Care Bowl because thats when the Big East had it and USF played in it.

That would have required a move to the real Queen City: Cincinnati

Cincinnati residents have always longed for the Skyline Chili Bowl.

We had The Bluegrass Bowl here in Louisville for one season back in ‘58. Oklahoma State beat Florida State 15-6.
There has been a movement among some in the state to rename the annual UofL/UK football game “The Bourbon Bowl”.
(Apologizes to Bobby Boucher.)

Think the Cheez-It Bowl should be the Bourbon Bowl, since Bobby Boucher showed up at what is now Camping World Stadium at halftime and won the Bourbon Bowl.

We need more northern bowl games, I know not very many people are excited by Detroit as it is but that game is pretty well supported and an easy/cheap trip for the MAC and Big Ten. If Cincinnati, Cleveland, or Chicago had a dome they'd probably have one already, I was always surprised Indy doesn't have a bowl already.

Congratulations Wisconsin, Duke's Mayo Bowl champs.
Was really hoping the players would dump a bucket of mayo on the coach, but no dice, LOL.
Wisconsin sets a team bowl record for most points in a bowl game with 42, moves to 5-1 in bowl games vs the ACC all-time.

I think your prefiction was in trouble when you assumed that Wake had a much tougher schedule than Wisconsin. Wiscy's only losses were to 6-2 NW, 6-1 Indiana & 6-2 Iowa. They may be a little better than your average .500 team.

I was hoping Chryst was going to be showered with a tub of Mayo after the game. Alas, it was not meant to be.

Schedules aside, Wisconsin was too big and physical for WF. Looked like men vs boys out there. Once the Badgers settled down in the second half they were able to impose their will on the line of scrimmage. WF’s QB throwing all those picks did not help either.

I was thinking more in terms of the totality of the schedules, Wake having played 8 games to 6 for Wisky, and having been active practicing and preparing for more than a month longer.
But obviously, I got this one wrong, LOL.

Wake Forest had a losing record in The ACC. Louisville was awful this year and beat WF 45-21.
No surprise that The Big Ten’s 5 best team could beat The ACC’s 10th best team.
