It'll be interesting to watch. No idea who is better.

This bowl has become one of the better before Jan 1st bowl games.

Does this bowl trace its history back to the Blockbuster Bowl? I’m so confused by sponsor bowls. “The 40th annual Cheez-It Bowl!” Yeah right.

Yes. This started as the bowl played at Joe Robbie Stadium. It was sponsored by Blockbuster and Carquest, among others. It was later purchased by the Citrus Bowl organizers and moved to Orlando as the second Orlando bowl game. It has previously been sponsored by Camping World, Russell Athletic, and someone else since it has been in Orlando.

And yes, Cheez-It sponsored the second Phoenix (Cactus) bowl game until this year. I had to look it up, but that is now the Guaranteed Rate Bowl. It was the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl before it became sponsored by Cheez-It.

The Big 12 is tied to both bowls. And now, for whatever it is worth, Oklahoma State is the first team to play in both Cheez-It Bowls.

Cuse was in the bowl two years ago...sigh

I can't believe we went from 10 wins to 1 win in 2 years.

Cuse traveled great to Orlando...had a solid 20,000 fans.

Yes, as Johnintx says, it is the Blockbuster Bowl, though the anniversary should be #30, as the first game was in 1990.

Cheez-It is a brand new sponsor. Last year it was the "Camping World Bowl", won by Notre Dave over Iowa State.

From Wiki, here are the former names:

Blockbuster Bowl (1990–1993)
Carquest Bowl (1994–1997)
MicronPC Bowl (1998)
MicronPC.com Bowl (1999–2000)
Visit Florida Tangerine Bowl (2001)
Mazda Tangerine Bowl (2002–2003)
Champs Sports Bowl (2004–2011)
Russell Athletic Bowl (2012–2016)
Camping World Bowl (2017–2019)
Cheez-It Bowl (2020-)

I always call this bowl the Tangerine Bowl. That sounds most organic and natural.

Not to be confused with the original tangerine bowl which is now the citrus bowl...

Of course, just as the new Orlando based Cheez-It Bowl originated as the Blockbuster bowl in 1990, the "Cheez-It Bowl" in Arizona was originally founded as the Copper Bowl in 1989.

That would be the Citrus Bowl - that was the original Tangerine Bowl - a name I loved

Bowl games should always have an organic name along with their sponsor name. That way if the sponsorship changes people can trace the bowl throughout history.

Yep. It should’ve been part of the NCAA bowl certification process.

Of course, just as the new Orlando based Cheez-It Bowl originated as the Blockbuster bowl in 1990, the "Cheez-It Bowl" in Arizona was originally founded as the Copper Bowl in 1989.

And the Copper Bowl began in Tucson before moving to Phoenix. The Cactus/Insight/Motel 6/Buffalo Wild Wings/Cheez-It/Guaranteed Rate Bowl was played at Chase Field, moved to Sun Devil Stadium, then moved back to Chase Field when Sun Devil Stadium went into a renovation phase. Tucson, meanwhile, now has the Arizona Bowl.

I agree: the organic name of the bowl should be part of the name along with the sponsor.

FWIW, we have two bowls formerly known as the Tangerine Bowl.
