Beamer is a pretty uninspired hire for the Cocks.

I hope you're right. He's a good one.

Punting and kicking took a step back this year.
We muffed more punts this year than in any I can recall.
We made more poor decisions about fielding punts inside the 10 than any time I can recall.
Spec Teams got worse this year in just about every facet.
So, I was glad Lembo stuck around last year. But I'm not devastated to see him go now.
Coach Mac has more HC experience for CRS to lean on. And he can get a youngish recruiter to work Spec Teams.

Our coverage teams actually improved this year. Our kick coverage team was 18th. Punt returns and coverage mid-pack.

Valid point. Our coverage was good this year, both kicking and punting. So not EVERY facet declined.

Youth, youth, youth. Young guys make mistakes. Young guys timing is off. Young guys don’t see the field.

Calvin Austin ain't young - he's been here 4 years. As much as he's improved as a WR - and he has greatly improved - he made a lot of mistakes on returns. Yes, he's mostly new to the return teams. And that's where coaching comes in.

Adam Williams and Riley are not young. Both took a step back this year. Riley, a small one. Adam, a significant step back. Adam almost cost us a game with a terrible shank. And he had his lowest yardage since he's been here. The pandemic is no excuse for those guys, because they practice on their own all the time.

Not blaming this on Lembo, or even on the players. Just pointing out that Lembo couldn't get things trending back the right way this year.

Where do you find another like him without missing a step.

Or was the genius in the talent?

I agree with you. Good coaches make a big difference. But if Silverfield can make the right hire they will be fine. Silverfield has to choose someone who definitely knows what they are doing. We have to replace our PK next season. Its a very important position. Also I wonder about how much they can pay this coach. The athletic department had to take out that $10 million loan. They will have to be frugal, which means they can't pay big money for the position.

Lembo might have been the highest paid assistant on staff. New guy will likely cost much less.

Lembo is great, but Norvell had more to do with our ST concepts than anyone when he was here. Lembo helped tweek and implement.

RE: Pete Lembo to South Carolina hurts
I've followed Pistol Pete Lembo's career since he was an assistant then very successful head coach at Lehigh (although he choked against Lafayette which caused him fall out of favor with alums/fans). Lembo's a really high IQ coach, loves his history. A bit of a quirky cat too....
