Liberty Bowl
Watching Jeff Monken's Army offense which is the same offense that Georgia Southern runs, reaffirms my belief, that this offense cannot come back from any type of deficit, its great at running time off the clock or winning when they are ahead but to come back from a 3 point deficit it just doesn't work. WVU didn't look great either, looking forward to whenever we can decide who they best Mountaineer team is.

RE: Liberty Bowl
To be fair, this offense is quite a bit more different than how it was run at Georgia Southern. They're putting even less emphasis on the B-back these days and he is blocking more than he's getting the ball. It's really more QB centric than I've ever seen at any point. It screams Single Wing more than anything else.

Most flex teams are running a TON of Zone Option/Zone Kick to combat some of the defensive looks they get. QB Lead/QB Power and Midline Triple are what I've seen out of them more than anything on top of the Zone stuff. This isn't the same veer attack we've seen at Georgia Southern or GT in the past.

But what you also saw was that the offense struggles dramatically if the interior of the DL can blow up the OL. It really just kinda comes apart. Army these days forces everyone into the phone booth with them and wants to leverage one side of you and just push you around on the field. If the middle gets blown up though, the offense just doesn't really work at all.

What I picked up from watching it is the offense needs to spread out, hard to run up the middle when there are 20 guys already there.

We ran it a lot more spread out. Like 3ft between OL spread out. Army has gone in a different direction the last few years.

Who’s gonna run it next year??? Shai Werts is transferring out of Statesboro.

You're mistaken. We don't run an offense like Army does. Yes we're an option team, but our base offense shares way more in common with everyone in this conference than it does with Army.

However, Tomlin should be back, and we brought in a transfer QB from GT (4-star) and a really good freshman recruit that's more of a passer than an option QB, but is dangerous with his feet.

The automatic assumption is that Graham will be the starter (for those who put recruit rankings above everything else) but it'll be interesting to see how it shakes out. Ruse isn't exactly an "option" guy anyway, as stAte fans can attest to since they hate him.

The Ruse situation here isn't easy to understand. The players he had were often the same players who won the conference and won 10 games in 2011. But, the team didn't hit that mark until we fired the head coach, who was likely responsible for most of the issues.

I can't decide how much culpability he had in all of that.

Ruse has done fairly well after he got away from Roberts. As a football coach he would fit in well with the old four corners BB offences. The guy was scared to do anything imaginative to win.
