The one year trend is that the Sun Belt is rated better than the Mountain West. The Sun Belt has been rated better than CUSA and MAC the last 3 years and 4 of the last 5.
Agreed. And if the Sunbelt plays its cards just right, they can really put C-USA in their rearview mirror for everything!!!!

I don't know what the Sun Belt gets paid but they deserve a raise. The pedigree is clear this year but it seems that the conference has demonstrated a strong football prowess for the last few years, thereby leaving C-USA in the dust. This is ironic because just a few years ago, C-USA backfilled vacancies created by Big East/ AAC plunders with predominantly Sun Belt teams, ostensibly asserting its dominance over the Belt.

Was it poor decision making about who to add, bad leadership in general, or just bad luck/ karma that has C-USA looking up at the Sun Belt? Regardless, it is an interesting and unprecedented dynamic for a conference to raid multiple schools from another conference only to have the raided conference immediately usurp the former on the totem pole of CFB.
It was several reasons. 1.adding appalachain st and Georgia southern 2.only having 10 teams 3.they have rivalries cusa does not have many 4. More fan excitement 5.watch a cusa game and look at the empty seats at the Florida schools, rice, uab, utep. 6.they are hungrier 7.even though cusa schools are in the bigger cities they are not the number 1 attractions for the most part
C-USA had a few rivalries, but they definitely did not promote them very well, which is probably why you have never heard of them. I'll start with "100 miles of Hate (now probably "Mild Dislike") [MT-WKU], Rivalry in Dixie [Southern Miss-LaTech], the "Moonshine Throwdown [Marshall-WKU], and the Shula Bowl [FAU-FIU]. And that's just a beginning. Add in non-conference games and you get even more, like Marshall-Ohio, UTEP-NMSU, UTEP-UNM, Southern Miss-Mississippi State, Southern Miss-Memphis, Southern Miss-East Carolina, etc.

The SunBelt believes in and supports itself. If I am not mistaken, the R&L Carriers Bowl in New Orleans was bankrolled by the SunBelt conference. Our commissioner is always looking for new ways to promote us instead of hiding out in his office like Judy does with C-USA, IMO. I have always thought it was a great tragedy that we had to force NMSU out of the Belt, because they really fit us like a glove, IMO. Love their fight song too. Don't miss Idaho, but definitely miss NM State.

You forgot about the Battle of the 305 (FIU-Miami).

No one knows or cares about what the Sun Belt commissioner does. Stop it with this whole “promoting” shtick!

He doesnt have any influence over how your teams perform on the field. What role did he play in the App St win over Michigan in 2007? Oh thats right, they werent even in the SB then.

(I know this is a very old thread - but)

At this point, of course they have - because C-USA doesn't exist anymore for all intents and purposes - and because there is so little left, even if they rebuild it under the same name, it wouldn't be the same conference anyway.
