Merry Christmas from a shaken Nashville
As many of you likely now know, downtown Nashville was rocked at 6:20 a.m CST by a car bomb. I live in a high-rise located about four blocks from the epicenter of the explosion and was jolted from my slumber. The boom shook downtown buildings and could be heard as far away as five to eight miles. It truly was horrific.
At this point, reports note only three injuries and no deaths. So that's a positive.
Sadly, however, many beautiful, historic buildings have been damaged and their future is uncertain. Businesses are lost. It's truly tragic.
Recall that the tornado in March damaged grand churches in Germantown and Five Points here in Nashville. Now this. For a lover of historic buildings (which I am), this has been a bad year for Nashville. A major section of downtown is now shut down, with authorities not sure if another bombing is prepared.
It's Christmas, and regardless of your faith (or even if you are not a person of faith), please say a prayer for my hometown.
This year has been rough for lots of Americans. I pray for all those who have lost loved ones to COVID-19 and for those who work in health care, police officers, fire fighters, ambulance drivers, teachers ... these are American heroes. We all owe them our gratitude.
May God bless this planet (we are all brothers and sister regardless of our faith, national origin, race, ethnicity, etc.) and this wonderful country that we American are so blessed to call home.
Merry Christmas and we will stay Nashville Strong in Music City.

Glad to hear that you are safe. That is too close for comfort.
I've spent a lot of time in Nashville, and I've had dinner right on 2nd Avenue. I just drove up that street when I was there in October. Too creepy. Glad to see that there were no deaths and very few injuries. It's still scary.
In spite of all of that, have a Merry Christmas!

Glad to hear all is safe. I pray this was not a practice run for something bigger. I hope they catch whoever did this cowardly deed.

The damage looks really bad on TV so I was pleasantly shocked that nobody died.
Glad you are OK.

Please remember there are people in the world who live with worse than this daily. Take a moment to appreciate the fear people must endure just to simply live some places. Thank god this was not in an area crowded with people.

RE: Merry Christmas from a shaken Nashville
I just read all the well wishes and it is hugely appreciated. The bomb has disrupted communication in Nashville and my family members and I have not been able to contact a loved one who is receiving treatment for a major health concern out of state. We can't wish our family member Merry Christmas. Fortunately, I was able to text a friend who then called the facility at which my loved one is and told officials of the bombing and why we could not contact our family member.
Thanks again everybody for the kind words in this thread and I agree with Todor. There are folks who have it horrifically worse than many of us (myself included). I am very blessed.

Dazzle glad you and your family are safe and that casualties from this horrific cowardly act were minimal.
The boys in blue the ones that have been so vilified by so many in our country probably saved many lives thankfully by evacuating the area.
The cops were responding to shots fired when they saw the suspicious vehicle. My guess is that the terrorist(s) who planted the bomb was targeting law enforcement officers called in the shots fired and wanted the bomb to kill the law enforcement officers. Thankfully no law enforcement was injured.

Kind words, Arch Stanton. Our local police officers and fire fighters have done a strong job with this today. A tough job these women and men have. Many had to skip Christmas with their families. I love these American heroes who sacrifice for us.
As some on this board know, I am a progressive vegetarian who loves the earth (yes, I'm a tree hugger/environmentalist). And I also love our military, police, fire, first responders, ambulance drivers, etc., too. They serve our country and make us proud. I oppose the death penalty overall. But if the person who did this was trying to cause us all great harm, I will not lose sleep if that person is humanely executed. However, reports note it might have been a suicide.
The boys in blue are working hard in the cold weather tonight. God, bless them.
I appreciate your response, AS. And I wish the Irish well in the playoff. I am rooting for Notre Dame to win it all.
