I hate it when we are lumped in with the Group of 4.

You and I are alike in this regard. I throw up in my mouth thinking that people think UC is the same as Louisiana-Monroe, Utah Valley State or Akron. When you compare the institutions from an academic, historic athletic success, brand strength in success it is laughable the media and P5 fanboys are doing it.

In terms of applied bias, all of us not benefiting from the CFP bias, are in the same boat unfortunately. And football America is deprived of the potential outside of the chosen few.

RE: President of Coastal Carolina Sends CFP a Letter
When it comes to college football, I feel Michael T Benson, a graduate of BYU, who is now the incoming president of Coastal Carolina knows all too well what it’s like to be marginalized. I think it’s great when anyone speaks up about the blatantly unfair system college football has to determine a champion. I don’t care if Coastal has only been FBS for four years. They are undefeated. And should get an opportunity to play against the best and prove themselves. Cincinnati should get the same opportunity as well. The more people who speak up and raise hell about the CFP, the closer we’ll get to some meaningful change. If it somehow gets to one automatic bid for a G5 school, that’s something. It would at least be a path to a title, which is a lot more than we have now.

[i]Incoming Coastal Carolina president Michael T. Benson wrote an open letter to the College Football Playoff Committee and its chair, Iowa AD Gary Barta, criticizing the “lack of fairness” and “absence of character” in the current college football postseason that “must be addressed.”

The letter calls for an “equality of opportunity” for schools from the Group of Five and criticizes the “flawed logic” that ended with Coastal’s No. 12 ranking and Cincinnati (9-0) finishing No. 8, which he said left them “absolutely flabbergasted.”

IMO, this letter takes a lot of chutzpah, given that just four seasons ago, Coastal Carolina was in FCS - a division that has an NCAA-run all inclusive playoff system. Coastal freely chose to move from that paradise of procedural parity to FBS, knowing full well that FBS has no such system, and yet now they are complaining about it?

It's like me, an avid meat-eater, choosing to attend a dinner plainly advertised as "vegan", then whining at the table that there's no meat on my plate. Mind-boggling ....

Do you mean that their new president has no right to make comments and decisions based on the current circumstances he has inherited? Because that is what you are saying. The world would be completely paralyzed if that logic were how things operated. Circumstances change, you have been told this on this very board more times than anyone wants to remember.

Please stop with your illogical BS, you are the ultimate troll and should be banned again forthwith.

But ... circumstances haven't changed. FBS has the exact same "playoff" structure as it had in 2017 when Coastal Carolina joined. Nothing has changed, except now Coastal is *feeling* the impact of how the system works. Well, that's not anyone's fault than their own. They had access to a ful-blown playoff system in FCS and left. They could still access it by going back. That was the whole basis of the FBS/FCS split years ago - FBS teams did not want to have a full-blown playoff.

It's no different than me accepting an invite to a vegan dinner while my belly is full of beef. The lack of meat at that dinner might be theoretically troubling at that moment but I'm not feeling it. A few days later when I sit down hungry at the table then I'm feeling it and wondering why I have to endure this. But that's my fault, not the dinner host's.

If you can't follow this logic, you are probably biased in some significant way.

The problem with that argument is that no one is calling it a vegan dinner. They are calling it “all you can eat steak”, then telling half the guys that show up “not you, because reasons”.

One example to look at this is and how bias the system is... Iowa St ends up ranked #10th with a record of 8-3 and gets an invite to the Fiesta Bowl. Everyone wants to forget Iowa St lost at home to Louisiana (not LSU) 14-31. The Louisiana team that finished 9-1 and ranked #19 with their 1 loss to Coastal Carolina (27-30). But since Iowa St split close games with Oklahoma they must be really good. Unless you actually look at who Oklahoma lost to... aka Kansas St who finished 4-6 and lost a home game to the mighty 4-7 Arkansas St Sun Belt team. According to the CFP those kind of losses don't really matter unless it happens to a group of 5 team.

Iowa State is a good example. Why have they been getting so much love? What does the committee like so much about them? They need to take the selection process out of human hands. Let predetermined factors and computer algorithms decide. Humans are influenced too easily, especially when those making the decisions are tied directly to P5 schools. The system needs to be changed and the CFP needs to expand. Both need to happen. The committee needs to be abolished.

It's mainly about keep the big money bowls only for the P5 schools. If they could have, they would have had Cincinnati play in a bowl like the Boca Raton.

I'm still scratching my head over Iowa State as well. The CFP slathered them with undeserved love. Someone noted that the CFP Chair is the AD at Iowa, but that's Iowa, not Iowa State. And Iowa State isn't even a big name. But somehow they were treated like Texas. Should be playing in the Alamo Bowl. Either Coastal or Indiana should have gotten the NY6 at-large.

The *only* thing that comes to my mind is that maybe the committee wanted to make sure the Big 12 got two teams in the NY6, as a way of saying "thanks" to them for deciding early to play and thus helping to save the season. If so, I can sort of buy that. Everyone owes the SEC, Big 12, ACC and Nebraska a debt of gratitude.

I see the Iowa State ranking as the committee rewarding the little P5 teams. See TCU, Washington State, Purdue, Iowa State etc can also make the playoffs...but not really.

Gotta make the 75% of the little p5 believe or they will turn on the committee (like they have for Costal Carolina, UCF and UC) and join in rattling some cages in the press.

RE: President of Coastal Carolina Sends CFP a Letter
The play off committee continues to believe that teams in the P5 have equal opportunity to make the 4 team playoffs In reality there are only about 10 teams in the P5 conferences that have any chance at all. Most of the P5 schools know this however it’s all about the Money for them. Other wise those schools should demand a expanded playoff.
Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State being in the playoffs again or maybe Oklahoma, Texas, USC, Auburn, ND, Florida, Georgia.
When will Vandy, Duke, Kentucky ever be in a 4 team playoff. Answer: Never[/u]

It's not that hard really, just follow the money... The more money brought into the State of Iowa the better. This year money is tight and with Iowa St making a NY6 Bowl, it make State funds a little less tight (a little less chasing the same State funds). It's all about keeping as much money as you can in the P5, think about it...
They need to throw the Big 12 a bone to keep them happy, ACC got 2 playoff spots, Big 10 got 1, and the SEC got 1. So to try and keep the Big 12 somewhat happy they needed to give the Big 12 2 NY6 Bowls. The Pac12 is kind the the P5's "Red Head Stepchild" and they kind have to fend for themselves (plus they kind bring it on themselves). Plus it gives the State a little bragging rights (the State of Iowa has made __ NY6 Bowls).

Most of the P5 schools know this however it’s all about the Money for them. Other wise those schools should demand a expanded playoff.

Eh, I don’t necessarily buy that. An undefeated, SEC champ Tucky is not getting snubbed. The SEC might get 2 teams in in that scenario, but Tucky is in.

Yeah no idea. My usual thought is that, similar to a team like Indiana, they slap a ranking on them to give one of the anointed teams a ranked team to knock over. With Iowa State, however, Texas and OU had already poo’d the bed, so who knows.
