I hope everyone is having a good day today! I'm a student at NKU and I wanted to learn more about Memphis Tigers Rivals and I thought no better way than jumping into this message board. With the help of message board members beginning in 2014, we—the students and professors of the Know Rivalry Project—began answering this question and others related to rivalry in the NCAA FBS. No one knows the rivalries of the Tigers better than this message board community. We use the Qualtrics online survey software for data collection. This academic research has been approved by two US universities' Institutional Review Boards (IRB) and it poses no risks to respondents. You'll find more information on the disclosure agreement that is required to start the survey. There are plenty of other teams you can look into as well on the site if you had other favorite teams. I'd love to know more in this thread about why certain teams are rivals. Thank you for helping us to include the Tigers by participating and please share this with any other fans that may also help.

Louisville no longer fits the bill and I am not sure if I feel like UTK is a rival...

40 years of conference hopping and power conference expansion has killed every rivalry Memphis once had.

Longevity and mutual agreement. Cincinnati fits the bill. Houston may get there. I’m not including the mutual hate rivalries nor the rivalries on hold.

What fuels our rivalries? People double posting.

Not going to a website I'm not familiar with.
But I will say this. We have regional rivalries with UT-K and Ole Miss.
We have a historic rivalry with Louisville, although they won't play us any longer. It was one of the best around.
We have conference rivalries with Cincinnati and Houston, from being together so long.
UCF is trying to get there, but it's still just too new.

proximity is always big thus why we regularly play Ole Miss and Arky State...conference affiliation such as with USM, Louisville, Cincy...and good ole jealousy/bragging rights as with UTK
