Thanks for posting this... Changes my pick on the "Bowl Pick'em" thread.

The University of Houston will be without 15 to 20 players for the New Mexico Bowl due to eligibility requirements, coach Dana Holgorsen said Tuesday.

“The whole grade issue is a whole other subject now,” Holgorsen said during an appearance on ESPN 97.5 FM. “It’s pass-fail. If you fail classes, then they don’t render you ineligible because of your GPA ... there’s still eligibility requirements with passing a certain amount of hours to be eligible for the bowl game.

Yeah... That news doesn't affect my pick at all.

I live in Nevada. Both my sons went there and I could see the Tigers play. Is it selfish....yeah.

My oldest son is in graduate school there now. Lives in Reno. etc. etc. Strong tradition, Coach Alt invented the Pistol. Kaepernick played there. Number 1 team in the state. Great fanbase. What else ya wanna know?

Nevada brings more than Colorado State, New Mexico, and UNLV.

Their football program has been a lot better than Memphis'. Have you seen them in basketball recently? Calipari Memphis played them in the tournament one year and almost lost. Been a school since 1892. They are the school and program of Nevada. You've got Lake Tahoe right there. One of the most beautiful places on earth. City school, Hotels, Casino's, etc.

Excellent on-campus stadium and arena. They wouldn't work as an only school but as a travel partner with say BYU, Boise, Nevada, I think they'd be an excellent choice. Loyal fanatical fan base. Been to many games there. They're legit.

04-cheers

None of those you mentioned above are being looked at so all is moot I guess.

I’m well aware who Nevada is... Take a look at Boise for example... They’re some what fairly new to FBS but they have built their football equity up a notch unlike Nevada they seem to be stuck in mud unfortunately.

Problem with all the Mountain schools is nobody east of the Mississippi ever get to see them play. Boise got to be Boise because of one magical season and the play of the century. Nevada has a coach who will be in the Hall of fame. They just haven't gotten a chance to do it on the biggest stage. Not their fault. They're the only act in town in a football crazed city.

Again, because they don't resonate with the majority of the country they won't be considered. Unless they come here as a package deal. They have the pedigree. Give them east coast exposure and it will change. You saw them today and I'm not a bit surprised by the outcome. I've witnessed them beating Boise in person. Just sayin.

I’m not a huge fan of package deals... The AAC with its current membership has build itself to a pretty sexy princess all on it’s own.

BYU or Boise football only would be my only targets to be honest.

Having a WVU of the west may not work. One team is going to be tough. Ya think Aresco doesn't know that? Get a west division that makes sense. We also blow up the MWC. Think strategic.

You want BYU? Give em a couple of buddies. Mormans travel especially if you make a pod within driving distance. Reno, Provo, and Boise are about as close as you're going to get in the west for that.
