Reminds me of the difference between Gronk and Kelce's conversations about first contracts. Gronk was very public about not using a dime of his NFL Contract money and living on endorsements while Kelce said he had used every cent of his first contract by the time he signed his second.

I'm gonna defend Kelce on that. His first contract was for 4 years at $781k/year, and he didn't have Gronk's endorsement income. After the second season it was pretty obvious that Kelce was going to get a massive raise. There was little reason to delay any purchases.

Kelce's second contract was $46 million. The signing bonus alone ($9.8 million) was 3 times his entire 4-year rookie contract.

My guess is Kelce's endorsement money is going to be fairly significant relative to his contracts before it's all over. He's likely to be in football long after his career ends given his personality and looks. Unlikely he's going to ever be short of cash.

I hope you are right but 80% of NFL players are broke 5 years after the career ends. Sad but true.

No problem when I first bought tickets 30 years ago I sat in I think it was Sec 122? Right behind visitors benches(now UC side). A really fun bunch who abused the visitors badly. The worst was a guy named Decker from Colerain who every game found one player with thin skin and really abused him. I think several times players were about to come into the stands. The best was when Gerry Faust brought Akron in and the week before an Akron coach was arrested on drug charges. The entire game our group chanted "Just Say No" Bad news was Akron won.

I would return to 122 but my wife likes the amenities in THE CLUB SECTION.

That sounds like our group of students behind the visitors' bench in basketball in the late 80's. Dana Kirk and his Memphis teams always had thin skins. Denny Crum's Louisville teams had the thickest skin. Kind of explains why one was such a better coach than the other.

Guessing this guy is Tucky's agent, but you can make a pretty nice NFL career out of it if you are good enough.

Bengals' Clark Harris bounced around for a couple of years but has now been their long snapper since 2009. He's 36, made over $1.1M last year and has made over $8M in his NFL career per overthecap.com

Windt lasted about 8 or 9 years with the Chargers. Not a shabby gig.

Does the Long Snapper play on defensive special teams plays in the NFL? I honestly have no clue. If you could get him as a punt blocking specialist that you're not wasting a roster spot, I'd imagine that'd be huge.

Agreed, but there is not administratively stopping players from playing multiple positions on the field. That's all I'm saying.

OT update: reading between the lines, I'm wondering if Harris (actually the NFL salary structure) is about to price Harris out of the NFL.

The Athletic's draft guru currently has Hudson 77th in his top 100 and says:

If nothing else, you'd think it would make it convenient for a guy like him to visit a UC practice or two just to tell guys what it's like and maybe pass along some NFL tips. But I'm now getting the feeling he won't make it to the Bengals in R3. Man, I wish he wouldn't have gotten DQ'ed against Georgia.

The knock on Hudson is arm length. He measured only 33 inches and the cut off for most tackles in the NFL is 34. Jonah Williams is 33.5 and he was dinged for having a short reach for a guy playing on the outside. A lot of teams may value him at guard.

Still love when people were hoping the Bengals could get him in the 7th while I was sitting there saying he wouldn't even make it halfway through the 2nd Day. I guess I should add NFL Talent Evaluator to my title line.

He could end up at guard but don't forget that Jonah was a top 10 pick for the Bengals as an OT and he wasn't considered a reach (at the time anyway - we'll see how it all works out.) FWIW, there are several senior bowl practice clips out there and I've seen him at RT quite a bit, but I haven't seen him at Guard although that doesn't mean he didn't get some looks there too.

I can certainly believe that some scouts/analysts can get very hung up on arm length, but I'm not sold on it being a big issue compared to other characteristics. FWIW, a PFF writer did an analysis on this very issue in 2013. His conclusion: "Any way I break it down, there doesn’t seem to be any correlation between arm length and performance. "
