Question ****2021 AAC Baseball Discussion Thread****
AAC's athletic directors have approved a full 56-game regular season, including a 32-game league schedule that features eight more AAC regular season games than years prior....This season's schedule will feature eight weekends of league action, with four-game series scheduled for each. A doubleheader will be played on one of the weekend days for every series, with play running Friday through Sunday....no midweek games will be allowed once conference play begins.

AAC approves new 2021 baseball schedule; over 1/2 AAC ranked in nat'l preseason poll
Pretty cool idea. Makes sense to go ahead and load up a conference schedule. You know there will be cancellations, so might as well have a bunch of backfill already built in.

Not a major poll but College Baseball Nation has 2 AAC teams in its 2021 Post-Fall Top 25 (#19 ECU & #25 UCF) while Tulane also garnered consideration.

https://www.collegebaseball.info/post/po...all-top-25

Should be a solid year for the conference.

RE: AAC approves new 2021 baseball schedule; over 1/2 AAC ranked in nat'l preseason poll
ECU could make some noise nationally in the tournament.

Baseball has always been a nagging disappointment for USF. We have a good program, with several conference titles and many NCAA tournament appearances. But we've never been as good as we should be, given the location and amazing talent in our areas. It's an underperforming program.

The fact that we haven't won a conference title in 25 years is just plain baffling.

We should be doing better, we should consistently be one of the three or so best programs in the AAC.

Might be the only team not named Houston hoops that has a shot to win a national title in a "major" sport.

I will be curious to see how the AAC fares this season. Seems the league will be (based on the preseason polls) very solid but perhaps not quite as good as it has been in year's past.

Good luck to all the teams.

I consider college baseball a major sport. And if ECU wins it all, would be big for the AAC. Good luck to the Pirates.

Ya think that there's a little bias towards a couple of leagues in this preseason poll?

Some of that is well deserved. Unlike football, there is actually a tournament that can be used to level-set each year.

Teams in the D1 Baseball preseason top 25

SEC: 9
ACC: 7
Big 12: 5
Pac 12: 2
AAC: 1
Big 10: 0

Teams in the Field of 64 in 2019:

SEC: 10
ACC: 8
Big 12: 5
Pac 12: 5
Big 10: 5
AAC: 3
Other: 28

While, yes, you can say that the anointed teams will get more teams in over other conferences with similar records...

Percentage of teams that made the Field of 16:

SEC: 6 - 60%
ACC: 4 - 50%
Big 12: 2 - 40%
Pac 12: 2 - 40%
AAC: 1 - 33%
Big 10: 1 - 20%
Other: 0 - 0%

Percentage of those teams that made the Field of 8:

Big 10: 1 - 100%
SEC: 4 - 67%
ACC: 2 - 50%
Big 12: 1 - 50%
AAC: 0 - 0%
Other: 0 - 0%

So, if you look at the last tournament, you could argue that maaaybe the AAC should have 2 teams in, since we went from 3 down to 1 when the field went from 64 to 16. 25 is closer to 16 than 64, so rounding isn't really on our side.

If anything, the Big 10 should probably have a team on this list.
