Yes, they are far removed but fer crissake, it is Boise State. People do watch them and their name does matter. As currently constituted, the AAC has recent major bowl participants in Cincy, Memphis and UCF. Adding Boise State would be huge. Get back to West and East divisions. Do it

None of their games drew 1 million viewers this year.

Largely because of the time slot of their games...

And that's the problem. Travel costs AND a time zone difference. Like I said, if Boise State ponied up $10-$12m for joining, it may be worth it. Otherwise, I am not so sure.

San Jose State just got trounced by Ball State.

Destroyed; down 34-0 after 34 minutes of play. The game before they handled Boise, more than doubling them in yards at 498-224 and first downs at 26-13. Boise got demolished by the only team they played, BYU. At one point it was 45-3.

IF the payout went from $7 to $9 million per team and Boise's share the first 3 years was $2,$4,$6 million, I would consider it, and then cap them out at $7 million to account for travel.

I keep asking posters here to list their most memorable Boise State games. Mine is the Oklahoma game in 2007. I honestly can't remember another one since then. The only ones that get a passing interest are games that they lose to eliminate them from NY6 every year.

They are a national brand only as far as name recognition goes. They are a good program but not really different from Indiana in basketball. You know who they are but they're just ok now.

Travel costs to Boise are really no different than travel costs to Orlando or Greenville.
Boise means enough to ESPN that they commanded a larger piece of the MWC media payout than their conference mates. There is national interest in Boise because of the brand they’ve built, which helps solidify the AAC as an automatic qualifier for an expanded playoff; and, better yet, drives a nail in the coffin of the MWC.

Quote:Boise means enough to ESPN that they commanded a larger piece of the MWC media payout than their conference mates.

I fully expect certain people to not have a clue and post whatever crap they feel like. Boise had ZERO games on ESPN, and won't have any through 2026. The MWC contract which is inflated is only as high as it is because they are buried on CBSSN and FS1 and FS2. The other teams get a little under $4 million per team; roughly half of our deal.

Quote:drives a nail in the coffin of the MWC.

The MWC and Boise are already dead. Their top team was undefeated and only managed to get up to #22 and then got demolished by Ball State in a bowl with a $225,000 payout. The conference hasn't played in NY6 in 6 years and counting. San Jose State was undefeated and only the 4th highest ranked G5 program. Beating Boise did nothing for them; why would it do anything for an AAC team?

Quote:Mountain West Commissioner Craig Thompson said Boise State would continue to receive its additional revenue in the new contract, but media contracts beyond 2025-2026 would no longer be negotiated separately for the Broncos.

This is why Boise now wants in after years of crapping on The Big East, The AAC, AND crapping on their own conference brothers by taking a lot more money. The contract had a total value with Boise given a disproportionate amount; an extra premium for the rights to their home games. Boise is now a declining brand and they have no leverage within their own conference. IF the MWC is able to duplicate its current deal after 2026, the conference as a whole is worth less, and Boise is going to have to probably take a 50% haircut from what they are making right now.

Don't let them in. They don't add anything of value except a chance that us or another incumbent member might lose to them, and not make NY6 because of it.

Boise is yesterday’s news. They are no longer dominating teams the way they did in years past. And I still remember their help blowing up the Big East.

Leave them in the MWC...

Again, it doesn't matter whether someone here thinks Boise adds value, whether they hold a grudge over something in the past, whether distance is thought too great, yesterday's news, etc etc. It will come down to what ESPN considers value or what's some other network considers value & if the AAC members agree there is value to adding Boise or another program. Boise nor any other school will be added unless that admin group of member schools determine there is value. That decision won't be based on some subjective opinion of fans, it will be based on bottom line net $$ from TV payout & travel by existing AAC members & the prospective school wanting membership - if there is common ground.

I also thought someone at MTO was going to put a poll under the Memphis/BYU, Tulsa/MSU brawl poll and that's how it was going to be decided. Thank God for Atlanta. He is so wise.

Apparently some here think they have the wisdom to make the decision, or their opinion matters.

You seem to be forgetting that a large number of G5 schools rely on buy games from the P5 to balance their budgets. There are more of those G5s who are using the P5 to exist, than there are of us G5s who feel like we should be getting close to CFP inclusion.

And what happened this year? There were no OOC games for AAC teams to compare against teams in other conferences. The only one that comes to mind was Tulsa almost beating Oklahoma State. With no OOC games; all the cartel had to do was declare that the entire AAC sucked and be default, Cincinnati didn't have a single good win. When there were transitive examples, the committee made a mockery of them. Iowa State was 8-2 ranked #6 with a home loss to Louisiana by 17 points. Coastal Carolina was 11-0, ranked #12 with a win against Louisiana.

With no games against the P5, that would be the best excuse to drop AAC teams from the rankings altogether. It would make the sham less uncomfortable for the committee.
