This is sad...
and ridiculous with teams getting to bowls with 2 or 3 wins.

Army, which went 9-2 this season, was unable to secure a partner to participate in a bowl game.

Army had a primary agreement to play in the Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl, but the game was canceled Sunday after the bowl said in a statement that "the opting out of possible teams created a lack of teams available to play in bowl games."

"We had guys in tears," Monken said. "We pulled off the biggest wins of these seniors' career, they just won the Commander-in-Chief's Trophy back, that's going to be their legacy, and they're looking forward to playing in a bowl game one time together, before they go off in the United States Army, and we're sitting here telling them, 'Sorry, guys, you can't play.'

Supposedly teams opted out rather than having to play Army. Wonder if there is a team left who would take the challenge. It would be a short trip for ASU, but they had a down year and lost their coach. But, boy would it get them some positive national publicity- even if they got blown out in the game.

I realize the bowls are a joke this year. C'mon, my alma mater Gamecocks going with 2 wins is ridiculous. So I'm not sure why, but Army getting screwed really irks me. Those kids will be defending our country in a year and I would bet that team did everything right on the way to 9 wins. They badly wanted to play in a bowl and deserved to do so.

Someone in high places needs to get some very, very bad publicity out of this.

Someone on the Army board posted (I have not attempted to confirm it) that Tennessee is dropping out of the Liberty Bowl I assume because of Covid issues. If true, this would open up a spot of Army.

PS, I just confirmed that UT is out of the Liberty Bowl.

It is a travesty that teams are going to bowls with losing records and Army stays home. I’m with you MJS, these players will be defending our country and deserve respect. There is a reason lots of people hate the NCAA and consider it a corrupt institution. Hard to argue after this. I realize the bowls are “Independent” but they are all pawns of the NCAA. Shame on everyone who had a part of screwing Army. Hopefully the Liberty Bowl will step up and invite them. I may even buy tickets to support it if they invite Army

Hey, this is all on the Power 5, not the NCAA. Sure the NCAA deserves some criticism, but this one isn’t on them. It’s on the money mad Power 5 who run the Bowls and CF Playoffs!

It worked out! Army got a spot in the Liberty Bowl on Dec. 31 when Tennessee withdrew due to COVID.

Yes, all's well that ends well. It shouldn't have come to this, but Army ending up in the Liberty Bowl is appropriate. It actually got the service academy a ton of well-deserved attention and landed them in a better Bowl. It will likely be a bowl I actually try to watch. It's gotten to where I have little to no interest in the bowls other than the championship playoffs- although they have gotten awfully repetitive...Clemson or Alabama every year (although LSU did win it all last year). This year I don't see anybody beating Alabama...except for maybe (surprise) Clemson.

I agree with both MJS AND PTJR. Glad it worked out for Army. Damn joke ARKANSAS or any teams playing with losing records.
