CUSA failed UAB once again. This shouldn’t have happened to the conference champions. I’d rather be in the Sun Belt than CUSA.

The ONLY conference champ not in a bowl game & only conference where the runner ups had better opponents than the champ

This is no small loss for UAB.

Yep. If we never accepted, we likely could’ve fallen into a game with Army.

OR if we had accepted one of the other bowl slots that our conference is tied into, we’d likely still be preparing to play a pretty good team

Hoping for another team to cancel and a slot to open up.

I don’t know about the politics surrounding how the bowl bids are doled out, but it was very short sighted if we turned multiple offers down to try and get a game in Birmingham.

I guess that's the $64,000 question: did we?

Exactly. What did we do? What did CUSA do? Not a word so far from UAB or our local "press" about how this went down. Just "we deserve to play" to "season's over" in a few hours.

I'd like to know HOW and WHY the conference champion was put in this position. Who made the decision to place UAB in the Gasparilla Bowl? Why was this match up so different than all the other bowl opponents for the CUSA Champion?

Does the absolutely rule out filling in for a team that has to cancel?

I don't think this would end the bowl streak. We were invited to a bowl. It was not the fault of UAB the bowl was canceled. It was out of our hands. We'll just have to put a covid asterisk (sp?) beside it.

Yeah, Covid, that's what it was for sure. We get no bowl game and an asterisk after winning a title. Either this was a screw job by CUSA or our AD is one dumb ************.

RE: 2020 Gasparilla Bowl
Guys it’s been a long season for everyone but especially for the players. Some of these guys probably haven’t been home in months. Would it be nice to have a 4 hour paid commercial, sure. But at the end of the day these guys need to see their families and not be on call for a bowl game that may or may not come. It’s time to get ready for Georgia and fill in spots that are going to come up from guys not using the extra year of eligibility

I agree. I'm disappointed in no Bowl but a conference championship is a hell of an ending. I hated we couldn't go to Marshall. Let the players, coaches and staff go spend time with their families on Christmas. Its been a long hard stressful season on all of them. Get healthy and ready for offseason workouts. Everyone stay safe and have a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.

Given the choice between sitting in quarantine practicing for a week just hoping a spot opens up, or ending your season winning a championship game and getting to go spend the holidays with your family, it's a now brainer decisions for the players and staff to put a wrap on 2020 and move on to next year.

What if the players agreed that they didn't want to sit around and wait on a game that never opens up? Seems some folk are just upset that they don't get to watch another game. HECK, the majority of fans weren't even going.

Let these guys rest in peace. The won a division title and conference title in a crazy year.

RE: 2020 Gasparilla Bowl
Not going to a bowl is unfortunate, but I’m fine with ending the season on a conference championship. Although money is partially at stake, a bowl game this year is pretty much insignificant anyway. Our boys get to go home and celebrate the holiday season with their families fresh off of winning their 2nd conference title out of 3 years. Good for them, and I’m thankful for everything each of them did to win my beloved university another title
