This is (again, money aside) why we need to stay on top and make this "big fish in a small pond" thing work for us.

Where are Louisville, Syracuse, Pitt, WV, IU, Purdue, UK, and all the other P5 serfs???

At home on new years day watching us play a blue blood in a NY6 bowl game, that's where.

If UC wants to be taken seriously next year this game is of utmost importance. UC has to win or be very very competitive. UC loses by two TD's and not only does this vindicate the selection committee but it makes it even harder next year. This might be the most important game any G5 team has ever played.

At home being comforted by their massive piles of cash lol. But yeah, if we're gonna be stuck in the g5 we need to be the NY6 rep like every other year

Getting blown out would be absolutely brutal. Uc was being hyped as a playoff team and losing to the #4 SEC team would not be a good look. It would probably end any playoff talk for any future g5

We all want a Bearcat win. But considering the 4th place team in the SEC is likely as good as the 1st place team in the B10 this year, if the 'Cats play to their mid-season form we'll have a very competitive game. There is no shame in losing to a program like Georgia; the upper echelon of the SEC has routinely beaten the best from all the other self proclaimed power conferences.

Those controlling the CFP will create whatever narrative they wish to preserve their status quo. So I don't think this Bearcat team has to carry the weight of G5 inequality on its shoulders. As others have said, the CFP will be as dismissive of a UC win as a UC loss. It is beyond Cincinnati's ability to singlehandedly change the structure of college football, force P5 expansion, re-start realignment, or initiate FBS separation from the NCAA.

So I say, let's just enjoy being in the brightest spotlight on UC Bearcat football in eleven years. Frankly, after the implosion of the Big East and still years later in the dark final days of the Tuberville regime, it was hard to imagine UC could ever climb this mountain again to play with elites on New Year's Day. Celebrate the moment; we already have much to be proud of in 2020, regardless of what happens in a de facto home game for an SEC power.

Probably missed this somewhere but what is the financial impact to UC for getting in the Peach Bowl this year?

In the past, most conferences have pooled the revenue from all bowls where member schools participate in a given year, and divide it up equally. The participating schools usually gets an extra share from the pool. So while it's probably not a windfall for UC, the NY6 bowl pumps a couple million more dollars into that pool in the years when the AAC gets the bid.

There will likely be a nice bump in licensed merchandise sales--both AAC championship and bowl specific along with more UC clothing sales. And the brand building for the University and Bearcat sports, while difficult to measure, certainly adds value when appearing on the big stage on New Year's Day.

The problem with this game and similar games against the big boys is we have set our team up just like them. Win the line of scrimmage. Works in AAC, but will be difficult against the big boys. UCF beat Auburn because they could sling it and take advantage of the secondary. We will not be able to do that given Ridder's difficulty down field throwing. I'm really worried about this one.

In believe the AAC deal is pooling for all bowls but NY6. I think we split the $4 million...1/2 to us and 1/2 to the conference. Pretty sure that was the deal for UCF and Memphis.

Really need a lot Georgia opt outs to get them off track.

That 2 million dollars would be massive for us considering how many couches are being rummaged through at the Lindner Center. Fickell is cashing in on 3 or 4 different sets of performance bonuses that need paid out. I know good gestures don't just happen without lawyers and contracts but it'd be nice to see his assistant pool get a portion of that too as a one time bonus.

I completely agree. Idk if we have the trenches to keep up for 4 quarters. Usually teams with gimmicky offenses do pretty well in these games when they make it a shootout. I was surprised we were only a 6 point dog.

Side note - what was the feeling when louisville played florida? Was there a similar feel to that match up? I ask because it seems like the matchups are pretty similar and louisville won pretty handily

Yes I recall UL was a heavy underdog in that game. Florida had a stout defense but struggling offense if I remember.

There's also the branding impact. UC jerseys have been on ESPN's frontpage pretty regularly over the past two weeks.

George Mason estimates they got $677 million in free publicity from their Final Four run. Overall university revenue jumped from $528 million to $634 million that year. The school had a 350% increase in admissions, with out-of-state applications jumping from 25% to 40% of the total applicants.

VCU got a 219% bump in licensing royalties after its Final Four. Applications increased 20%.

Butler estimated they got $450 million in free advertising during its first Final Four run and $1.2 billion over both years. They had a 52% increase in undergraduate applications (although they were starting with a much lower number than UC).

Florida had a 9.5% jump in applications in 2007 after its titles in basketball and football.

I think there’s some validity to that. See UC vs OSU 42-0

Really great news on the NY6 split if that's the case. I think we could all agree that is a windfall, but earned and deserved for sure.

Not trying to be a prick or anything but this sudden concern about being able to play with the SEC #4 team is intriguing to me... If we as a fanbase are that worried about competing with UGA, why are we bothered about being excluded from the CFP? Seems like we were just talking a bunch of sh!t.

IMO, the UGA game will be our biggest test since the O$U game and it should be, but I like our chances if the O line can not have 294 false starts amid what will surely be a very noisy venue. UC may not win but I definitely think we'll be more competitive than our list New Year's Day-ish bowl game... and we definitely won't lose our coach this time.

I believed we were on ND and A&M level up until this past weekend. Tulsa running it down our throat really shook me. Outside of QB, I think Tulsa was the better team.

To be honest UC had 4 really amazing weeks. The first 3games were actually uninspiring and the last 2 were full of mistakes.

The last two were toughest and filled with odd circumstances.

I still think we are on their level... should have said that. I am glad that UC had the Tulsa game to shake off the rust. I wish we would have had them both because IMO the second one would have not been as close. Maybe those are my rose colored glasses, but that's my opinion.
