This is kind of what I figured as well. Nobody is going to be the perfect replacement to Clark, but I'd be okay taking a chance here.

If Clark takes it, he'll likely have agreed to not have autonomous control over the staff. Maybe that's a stipulation he agrees to since it's his dream job.

He seems to have been successful. He certainly should have an interview.

The type of coach you go after depends on if you are going to be in CUSA or AAC.

If you are going to be in the CUSA then get Jacksonville State's John Grass.

If you will soon be in the AAC then someone like:
1. Chad Morris. ( He did a great job at SMU)
2. Mike Bobo
3. Matt Luke
4. Larry Fedora
5. Hue Jackson (lot of college experience and a fine off coordinator in the NFL)

Same here. My gut always said when the time came it would be Auburn or one of the Mississippi schools. I don’t want Clark to leave but I’ll wish him well and appreciate all he did if it happens. I’m a UAB grad and fan but also a lifelong Bama fan. If Clark goes to the plains I guess I’ll somehow have to be an Auburn fan as well. That will be...weird.

Dream job? I thought when he was at Prattville he supposedly encouraged prospects to choose Bama over Auburn. That he had always been a Bama fan growing up. Look who knows. If he goes to Auburn it will be for the same reason most coaches go somewhere. Its a business decision mostly. Nothing wrong with that. I don't blame him. If he goes we finally have facilities to entice an up and coming young coach. And that coach will be here until a better job comes along. Stop acting like our coaches go to bed singing the UAB fight song and wearing Blazer pajamas. They are paid by UAB to coach. Just that simple. Anderson would have gone to Auburn if the search hadn't been so mishandled. Hell even coach Bartow would have left for Kentucky if they would have given him time to tell the president

Would we be able to match Sarc's salary? I have no clue what he makes. He would be my choice if we hire a coordinator. If we go retread, I would be happy with a coach like Gus. He wasnt a bad coach, he just wasnt able to to meet unrealistic expectations. I dont know if either of these guys would even have a modicum of interest or where else we would look.

Sark is about to be making $3.5M as Bama's OC.

Malzahn is interesting. I don’t know if he’d be interested but I wouldn’t be disappointed.

Let’s just say the AU coaching staff didn’t look forward to scouting Prattville.

But someone said favorite job. I honestly doubt, given his inside view, he would even agree to discuss UAT, so assuming he wants to stay in AL that leaves API.

Larry Fedora was 1-3 vs Callaway. That should exclude him.

I don't mean in an official capacity. I mean stuff leaked to a reporter. Just would be nice to know we're at least attempting to put together a new contract.

UAB can not nor should we try to compete financially with Auburn. He will either get the job or not. Nothing we can do will prevent that.

Once he gets out from under the protective wing of the independent BOT, he may find he has more bosses on his back than he had in the uA system.

WTF are you talking about? Seriously. WTF? At the risk of derailing, please list for me who in Montgomery is pulling the strings in Auburn. Because Jimmy Rane isn't in Montgomery.

Montgomery doesn't have to be a person's residence for them to exercise political power in Alabama. The Auburn University's BOT is appointed from that power center and every legislator and their power brokers around the state have the reach to touch Auburn's administration in ways they can't in Tuscaloosa. How did Rane and Lowder get on the AU BOT? The governor appointed them. The governor can't do that at Bama nor any UA campus.

I mean, I'd almost be interested just for the weirdness it would add to the UAB Football story.

Imagine opening our new stadium with Malzahn at UAB and Clark at Auburn.

Yup. It's out of our hands.
