RE: Clark to interview for Auburn Head Coach job
All major administrative decisions at Auburn are based upon its administration being largely controlled from Montgomery. Its BOT , President and others are hired by politicos who are elbow deep in that school's decision making processes. Ever since Gov. Gordon Person ordered the hire of Ra;ph "Shug" Jordan, this has been the case for that school. The big money power brokers work with legislative and executive politicians to make all important decisions. Coach Jordan complained at a Touchdown Club meeting that he regularly got calls from legislators demanding scholarships for kids from their districts, and that they get more playing time while there. Does this still go on? I don't know, but it did at that time. Jordan also complained about fans demanding the lights for night games at Cliff Hare Stadium which he opposed.

Because of its self appointing BOT (which hires its administrators), Bama is not as easily influenced from Montgomery's politicos.

As others have said, hopefully this gets Clark a raise at UAB and he makes a change on offense.

Me either. It would be like hiring Mike Leach's offensive coordinator. You have to wonder who is really doing the coordinating.

We tried that one with Bobby Petrino's OC. Didn't end well.

You'd think by now I would be used to seeing abject stupidity on an internet message board, but I guess I'm not there yet.

yeah its stupid to change jobs for money.

after all you said about covid, you need to be read-only, you turd.

You said if Clark leaves, it's because he's greedy. That's stupid. And childish. I will not fault him if he leaves, but apparently you will, because you think he's "chasing greed." I say that's a part of life. I've made a career move with better pay. Not because I was greedy, even though I was making a considerably good financial decision. It was also a chance to work in a better place doing better things. So how about grow up and not accuse a man who by all accounts is one of integrity of being greedy if he decides to make a career move.

I said it on page one. IF AU hires Clark, they could triple his salary and he'd still be the lowest paid coach in the SEC. Legend, you saying that you wouldn't change jobs if someone offered to triple your money? Or is that just being greedy?

Add that paying that little would allow AU to claw back some of what it cost to sack Gus.

I get the feeling AU may be looking for a short-term, cheap solution while they pay Malzahn's buyout. If their new coach doesn't "prove" himself within that time they would move on to a "name" coach...

Based on what ive read, the odds are not in Clarks favor. Theres more proven guys on Auburns list than Clark. I have little concern over this.

Proven on what basis?

Anyhow, Kevin Steele is the greatest coach to ever live. Hire him now, Auburn. Don’t let him go rejoin Saban’s staff.

I wouldn’t blame him for taking the job for a second. You don’t come across many chances in life to make that kind of money that would lead to true, generational wealth for you and your heirs for generations.

That being said, money isn’t the end all be all.. I hope like hell he doesn’t leave us.

Sark had Washington going in the right direction. He's elevated the offense of the best CFB program in America. His only issues were his personal ones he seems to have overcome. Napier and Brown have accomplished more than Clark at the G5 level. Lets be real.

A reporter for 247 said Clark's interview went well and he's likely to get a 2nd interview. The reporter still thinks Steele and Napier are more likely though.

Has anyone heard if Ingram/the foundation are working on putting together a new contract for Clark? Given he's won 2 out of 3 CUSA titles, we need to make him the highest paid coach in the conference regardless. The Auburn situation just makes that more urgent.

Just math. Ala Education pensions are based on 2.2 % per year.
So 3 million x (30 years Times 2.2 % ) EQUALS way over 1.5 Million.

It is likely that a coach's pension from the Alabama TRS is based only on that part of his pay that is directly from the state. It may not consider other income like that funded by private donations from such private sources as the Football Foundation which may not be paid by the Athletic Dept.(therefore the state) at all. The coach still gets his full pay, but it may not count entirely toward his TRS pension funding.

This. The major majority of the football coach’s income is from booster donations and bonuses not paid by the state. The state’s part is much much lower. Saban’s part that the state pays is less than $500,000/year (I believe). Coach Clark’s part that the state pays is around $400,00”/year (again, I believe).
