RE: Clark to interview for Auburn Head Coach job
If he’s actually interviewed, I think he’ll win the job. Will have a semi-long term plan, and won’t ask for too much more money.

RE: Clark to interview for Auburn Head Coach job
It had to come sooner or later. I could not blame him if he took the job. It's an upper half SEC job in his home state. They could triple his salary and it would still be at the bottom of the SEC pay scale. They have everything he could ask for.
That said, it's also the home of unrealistic expectations. There are a lot of their boosters who are not going to like hiring a guy with no P5 experience. There will inevitably be some "We paid $21m to hire UAB's coach?" He's from Alabama, he's well aware of how they have treated head coaches before.
I've said for some time now that he wasn't likely to leave before coaching at least one season in the stadium he helped design... but I also said that when he leaves it will likely be for an SEC team in the top half of the conference, a team with a legit path to a national championship shot. Auburn fits the bill.
We'll see, I guess. If he takes it, I have nothing but good wishes for his future. He has carried himself well, and it is impossible to overstate the difference he has made to UAB football since he was hired here. I just hope they turn up their noses at him and we get to keep him a bit longer.

Thing about Reeves is, Clark and He are close. Clark could pay him a Million plus to be DC down there. I don’t see UAB offering more than 700-800k for a new coach. Won’t put the cart before the horse. Now you have facilities and a new stadium to recruit a coach with.
Would Clark be cool with being forced to inherit anybody but Gardner down there?

I don’t follow coaching and recruiting. Is that a good one that would come to our neck of the woods?

The coach that comes after Clark will get at least a million a year, probably more. There’s little doubt about that. Too much investment now to not pay what the market dictates we have to.

Is it not the same guys paying Clark and Kennedy?
I’d hope we’d offer that much, but just made me curious considering what Kennedy agreed to, to coach hoops

And do you know what those two coaches make? I suggest you do some research. Kennedy took less to have a longer term guarantee in his contract that will be renegotiated with fast success. Regardless, UAB will pay more for football coaches than basketball coaches from now on and that won’t change.

I hope he’s just using this as leverage to get more money at UAB. After all, he did just win a conference championship.

This is my hope too. I honestly think Clark wants to play at least one season in the new stadium and hopefully we can ride the next year into the AAC.

I know what Clark’s making. 1.4-1.5 mil. With at least another 100k following Friday.
One of the mods on here said AK was getting 450k
Clark’s making that much because he earned it through results while here. I just don’t see the top boosters spending that much upfront on somebody new unless they are stellar.

After looking, it’s 500k in year 1 for AK

Who we about to spend a Million on? Gus Malzahn while he collects his buyout?

Auburn is a mid-tier SEC west school. Year in and out, they will be below UAT, Texas A&M and LSU.
Their path to the 2010 NC was by cheating and got caught but dodged bullet one time due to that weird NCAA ruling.
If Clark leaves, its chasing greed which I wouldn't blame him.
I'd leave my job in a heart beat for a very similar job making 3x or 4x the salary, immense football budget and personalized captain's chair on Jimmy Ranes' jet.

I think Kennedy gave us an alum/hometown discount. We aren't paying him the same as he could make elsewhere.

One of the factors that kept Clark at UAB was Alabama educator's pension plan would go to 300K for sitting a year. After three years at AU, Clark have a millions and half pension forever
