Come on....do you really think Clark turned down the job? I mean do you really think Auburn said, "will you accept the position?" and Clark said "no"? If anything it was a mutual parting.

Regardless, Clark staying is a good thing for UAB Football so rejoice.

If they asked that question with the stipulation he'd have no control over his own coaching staff, of course I think he would turn it down. No matter how it went down, I don't really care. He's still our coach and I'm taking a huge sigh of relief. I've been justifiably hard the coaching staff this year for a couple of our losses.. That being said, nothing will change my opinion that Clark is an excellent coach and I wouldn't have a college football team to root for if it wasn't for him. I'm just happy he's staying.

This is all a dog and pony show. If Auburn did not offer Bill the job after this last interview then Clark probably just said thank you for the interview and good luck with the job search.

You don't interview two times to turn down a job. Just my opinion of course.

you do if they make demands you can not agree to or you cant agree on terms.

Demands are made before the job is offered. If Auburn required certain things from Clark and he said no, then the parties go their separate ways without a job offer.

Even I think Auburn officials would be professional and smart enough not to offer Clark a job with stipulations. I'm sure the interviews went over expectations from both parties and if the parties differ in these expectations they more than likely chose to go their separate ways.

Besides, the initial reports says Clark wasn't in the running anymore. Not that he turned the job down or Auburn didn't offer it to him. It's all speculation.

Quote: Source: #UAB coach Bill Clark is no longer a candidate for the #Auburn job. He and Auburn reps talked this week. The Tigers’ search continues.
From Brandon Marcello

I personally will believe Clark and Auburn are on pause until they they’ve announced a new candidate is being interviewed.

Clark will take that job if he can hire his own staff. However, AU fans would ask why would you make that move for Clark and not Napier who was supposedly your first offer?

If Marcello has confirmation. Just makes me feel better about our retention.

RE: Clark to interview for Auburn Head Coach job - updated - 2nd interview
From Jay Pruitt

I guess I'll go ahead
& say this.

Earlier;
I spoke with a VERY, VERY RELIABLE source regarding Auburn University's coaching search.
I was informed,
Coach TRULY LOVES, ADORES, & plans to remain at our University.
In fact; he hopes this situation helps negotiations for a longer contract extension.
As of yesterday (Sunday), Coach agreed to interview, however; made it clear his decision wasn't solely financially based, & his family's input means the world,
& DEFINITELY plays a huge role in ANY & EVERY situation.
The source said, the Clark's are invested in UaB, its players, future players, the city of Birmingham, UaB staff members, graduates,
& all affiliated.
I told the source to please relay our admiration, respect, love, & fondness,
& how we ALL want him coaching our University, for many, many, many years.

Yes; I'm totally aware things can & may change with every millisecond of a minute,
However; per our discussion(unless something changes),
it appears Coach wants his impact, imprint, & image as the face of UaB football.

We shall see; I hope it's TRUTHFUL,
Fingers Crossed...

Exactly. The griping about our offense and discipline makes sense up to a very short point until you consider all this man has done for this program and university. That alone should put him on a very, very long leash with us all.

I hope he leaves only on his own accord. He’s certainly earned that much. Could we find another very good football coach? We sure could! Could we find another football coach of good character? Possibly. That talent pool is much more shallow. Could we find another good coach with great personal character? Don’t hold your breath. Now, put on top of that coach a man who truly loves his players and the school they represent, Halley’s Comet will be back sooner. Let’s do all we can to keep this man and let him know how much we want him around.

Say what you want about me for voicing this, but I’m going to cut Coach Clark as much slack as he wants or needs for however long he needs it. If it were to ever devolve into an Art Briles/Baylor situation, then I’ll be on the front line asking him to leave us - But I don’t ever realistically expect that to ever happen with the man we currently have leading us.

I’ve spoken my peace. Good evening, all.

From my frantic creeping on Auburn boards the past day or so, it seems they hate their own BoT almost as much as we hate ours.

Not as much, because I'm not sure that's a possibility, but a lot.

Anybody else on this board that's had two job interviews, been offered the job and turned it down? I've done it, so I can't imagine there aren't more. The 2nd interview in particular is a good time for potential employees to really gauge the situation they are walking into. If you ask the right questions, you might find some answers you don't like. Or something may be said that raises some concerns.

He could’ve been using the 2nd interview as even more leverage to increase his salary at UAB. He could’ve been turned off by not hiring his own assistants. Maybe he got cold feet. He could’ve turned it down for a million reasons.

You got to remember that a lot of the "facts" being reported probably aren't true. There was reason to talk on both sides, for sure, but only Bill Clark and a small group of Auburn folks know exactly what happened. Pretty good chance that many of these "sources" aren't nearly as knowledgeable about this situation as they proclaim to be. Bottom line is that Bill Clark is still the UAB football coach and that's a good thing.

Wait a second- are you telling me that internet message boards are not reliable sources of information??? Cue Captain Renault: "I'm shocked, SHOCKED, to find that there is gambling going on in here."

They say Coach Clark remains in play for AU. Sounds like things are on pause to me.

Now Talty says he was never offered and has faded as a candidate. A lot of conflicting info out there.
(Clark wasn’t offered the job and has faded as an Auburn candidate. It’s always possible Auburn could circle back with the UAB head coach but the odds of Clark becoming the next coach have waned.) https://www.al.com/auburnfootball/2020/1...earch.html

I don't know about that. I've read Auburn's AD is now in charge of the search (I guess he wasn't before?) meaning some guys who were previously off the table are now back on it. If this is the case, I think they will go back to Sark and Cristobal and then work their way down the list from there.
