RE: Anticipated coaching changes in off season?
We gave up 18.6 points per game in our last 5 games; which isn't too shabby at all. 35 of those points were to Tulane; with our offense turning the ball over 4 times and running for 46 yards. Did the defense turn the corner? I'm not ready to say that, but it definitely did improve from the 35.7 points per game it was giving up before then.

I will say it. The D did turn a corner this year. It seems pretty clear to me. Still have a ways to go. But they definitely trended the right way, and players definitely gained confidence and made fewer errors. I will welcome Mac back, and look forward to seeing what he can do given an actual spring practice and summer workouts.

If he had a spring practice this year and fewer dings to the players probably would have made the championship game. Would have beaten SMU had we played them in November this year. That said Cinncy was damn good this year, hope they win the Peach.

Aside from our established best players like Goodson, Dorceus, Johnson and Carter, I thought that Ducksworth, Owens, Jaylon Allen and Ja'Len Sims improved as the season went along. It seemed that Ducksworth and Owens were around the ball a lot.

With the reported departure of "special teams coordinator/associate head coach" Pete Lembo today (Commercial Appeal), it will be important to find a quality replacement. We will have two sophomore place kickers and a promising freshman place kicker on the roster next year. Our punter, Adam Williams, will be a senior and the two of the three long snappers will be seniors as well. I am not familiar enough with the rest of our special teams roster to know how experienced they are.

By now, we have such a solid reputation developing kickers and punters, it seems that we have access to highly rated ones. Patterson was highly rated, and the kid we have coming in next year is also.

Mashburn, too, made a lot of progress. I look forward to seeing his little bro more next year.

D definitely improved later in the season. Not sure what exactly changed, but whatever it was it seemed to work.

I agree on Mashburn, I forgot to list him.
