Temple’s men’s 2020-2021 basketball season
Temple kicks-off it’s basketball season playing NJIT at 4:30 pm tomorrow. Fans are anxious to see Temple’s new players.

NJIT comes off a 9-23 record and has moved from the A-Sun conference to the American East conference. Virtually it’s entire roster is back. Temple is given 76 percent chance of beating NJIT. Should be a competitive game.

Temple is projected to finish near the bottom of the conference as it has many new players.

Temple's J.White still recovering from surgery. Recent transfer Brandon Barry and S. Tolbert are not expected to play. Tolbert is still recovering from an injury. T. Strickland will be a game-time decision.

The starting line-up will consist of freshman J. Williams, D.Dunn, D.Perry, JP Moorman, and J. Forrester. with K Battle, Quincy A., N.Jourdain, and A.Parks, coming off the bench.

Both Dre Perry and D.Dunn need take a big step forward in leading Temple’s offense.

This past season was a transitional one as Rose, Alani Moore, and D.Moore graduated, and NPL has opted to play pro ball. Scott, Hamilton, and JPL all
transferred to other schools. HC McKie says that next season Temple will play up-tempo.

To win more games Temple needs to: (1) Get Barry to shoot more three’s (2) Have Perry and Moorman drive to the hoop more when they’re off shooting three’s; (3) Run fewer plays for Forrester as he turns the ball over at a high rate. turn the ball over as often as he does, and play him less minutes to avoid him piling up fouls, and (4) Pressure the perimeter in order to cause turnovers and reduce opponents three-field goal percentage.

Owlscoop 'broadcasters' want to know why Monty Scott's creepy shooting coach is still concerning himself with Temple. You didn't go here. Go focus your energy on Portland State's mediocrity. You're just talking to yourself.

RE: Temple’s men’s 2020-2021 basketball season
Portland State sits at 6-9, and 3-5 in whatever conference they're in--second to last behind Idaho. James Monty Scott leads the team in all categories, which is less impressive, and more of an indicator as to how terrible they are. Glaringly awful shooting at 35.1% from the field, under 63% from the FT line, and under 30% from 3. He's turning the ball over 3.1 times per game, which also leads the team.

PSU has played 4 non-D-I games.

When VCU’s star SG Bones Hyland left Temple after his recruitment visit, he said that he loved Temple, but instead signed with VCU.

RE: Temple’s men’s 2020-2021 basketball season
The turnover differential between opposing teams often determines the outcome of games. Dunphy teams's almost always won the turnover battle. In HC Mckie first two seasons as HC, Temple’s turnovers have increased, and helps explain Temple’s losing record the last two seasons. Temple should play a pressure defense and force way more opponent turnovers.

RE: Temple’s men’s 2020-2021 basketball season
Temple fans put down Temple players as not being highly rated.

Forget that Temple outscored nationally 5th ranked Maryland in the first half and led for 35 of the 40 minute game. Temple did so well because Mckie maximized his squad’s athleticism and speed, employed a pressure defense in the first half, and Alani Moore shot 6-10 on three’s. In the second half, No pressure was applied to Maryland’s PG Cowan, and he went off shooting three’s.

Temple did beat talented USC last season, and beat undefeated Houston in conference play the year before. Temple has had talented players.

Probably because we're a few possessions away from being .500.

How's Portland State doing?

With Nick Jourdain making 4-3’s in his last two games and blocking 3-shots in his last game, Jourdain should have played far more than he has.

Instead, Moorman has played even though when he plays Temple is outscored and when Jourdain plays Temple outscores it's opponents.

Will be interesting to see whether 6’8” Sage Tolbert is better than Jake Forrester, as Tolbert is a better shot-blocker.

RE: Temple’s men’s 2020-2021 basketball season
Temple won games against SMU, Tulane, and UConn, with Scott, and Temple lost when Scott played fewer minutes.

PSU was one of the top teams in the nation in offensive rebounds and steals, and conference opponents averaged 4-less points than Temple opponents did. No basis for trashing PSU that went 8-10 in conference play while Temple went 4-11 in conference play. PSU would have done far better but it’s National Junior College transfer player of the year was a bust.

PSU outplayed NCAA Elite Eight Oregon State by 10 points in the second half. Houston was outscored by by Oregon State in the second half.
