It's shame. We were getting about the same thing happening to Ladd for South. Just still worried for the High School games and Lending Tree Bowl game there.

Actually Legion Field is not in terrible condition. It's just horribly outdated. But it's not in danger of collapsing.

Won’t be long before the city condemns it just to get it off the books. Which is a shame, had the city been able to connect the properties that have Legion Field, what was the fair grounds and Rickwood Field, there could have been a heck of an entertainment district there. Of course that would have taken a complete neighborhood reversal.

it'll just light a fire under em to get the new stadium built. They'll probably just play at the 20,000+ seat War Memorial Stadium in Maui.

There are absolutely no plans to condemn Legion Field. The Magic City Classic will be played there for at least the next three years. And considering the MCC draws 65,000 fans for the game don't look for the Classic to move to new Protective Stadium anytime soon.
And the city council would like to make LF a historical landmark. Again, the stadium is structurally fine.

Seems crazy that hopping on a plane and flying 100 miles is the best option for your home football games.

In October we made the mistake of following the Apple Maps directions to what was supposed to be a prepaid parking lot near Legion Field. Maps took us straight through some sketchy-@$$ projects across the street from the stadium, and then the kicker, the parking lot didn’t exist. Luckily we found where we were supposed to go.

The MCC is now the only event half at Legion Field. I know it draws 65k, but that is a huge expense by the city for one event a year. LF is now on the short lifespan list. Birmingham doesn’t need 3 baseball fields and two football stadiums, but here we are, the city will soon pull funding.
