Notre Dame
Florida
TAMU

I don't think they'll do that. The uproar would be huge and the ratings will tank.

If Florida wins then they probably get in. Alabama would be in too. Norte Dame obviously.

If USC beats Oregon this week then they'll be 6-0. If the CFP is willing to take a 6-0 Ohio State team then don't sleep on USC. Also, if Oklahoma avenges the loss to Iowa State then they might get the nod.

However, in the above scenario, I almost think Cincinnati would have a shot.

LSU-Alabama was a disaster. If they put 3 SEC teams in there will be a mass boycott of watching.

Jed, the reason the NFL absorbed the AFL was simple---salaries. Starting with Joe Namath's contract, the AFL vastly drove up the cost of business.

Plus, the AFL was in cities the NFL thought would be good to add, Houston, Kansas City, San Diego, Queens, Boston, Buffalo, Denver, Miami, Cincinnati; and Oakland was ok too.

Aye, the AFL salaries, outstanding AFL players,* and locations were important factors in the decision by the NFL to buy out the AFL, lock, stock, and barrel.

But none of those factors would have been an issue if the AFL teams and players hadn't captivated the imaginations of millions of American football fans who were looking for something new and different.

If the AFL hadn't skyrocketed into fame and fortune in the few short years between 1964 and 1969, the AFC as we know it never would have come into existence.

......................................................................................................

*Joe Willie Namath became a superstar, despite having the gimpiest knees in the history of pro football, as did some of the other outstanding AFL QBs, such as Bob Griese, Daryl Lamonica, Lenny Dawson, George Blanda, and San Diego's John Hadl.

In addition, the AFL had great running backs, such as Mike Garrett, Jim Nance, Paul Lowe, OJ Simpson, Floyd Little, and the great Miami backfield of Larry Csonka, Jim Kiick, and Mercury Morris. Their outstanding receivers included Lance Alworth, Fred Biletnikoff, Otis Taylor, and Don Maynard. Other standouts included players such as Buck Buchanan, Nick Buonoconti, Jim Otto, Willie Lanier, Bobby Bell, Babe Parilli, Pete Gogolak, Jack Kemp, Bill Bergey, Goose Gonsoulin, Gino Cappelletti, Cookie Gilchrist, & Abner Haynes.

Partially did that in 1985. We scaled fire escapes up to how many floors in the middle of the night, then found a soft spot inside and took the elevators to the top floor. Nothing like the French freak who literally climbs skyskrapers.

Impressive. I had never heard of the French Freak. I respect his skills. What I don't respect is that he putting first responders in a situation that could limit them from helping elderly/gravely ill folks from needing help more so than a law-breaking daredevil. He is selfish in that respect. Still, amazing athelticism.

Love the Carew Tower. An elegant and attractive high-rise.

We can disagree about that some, but yeah he could try to get a permit. Especially the common areas and the attached Hilton of the Carew Tower are amazingly top shelf. Art Deco masterpiece.

I would trust we would not disagree that the Fourth the Vine Tower is a masterpiece. Love that building.

The only way Cincinnati makes it into the CFP is if hell freezes over. And even then, it’ll be next to impossible.

Go Notre Dame and go Tennessee (I'd say go Northwestern but I'm a Big Ten fan and I don't want to see us shut out of the Playoff).

I remember in 1998, it seemed impossible that FSU would make the BCS title game. Then on the last day of the season three crazy results happened and suddenly .... they did.

It can happen.

FSU was — and still is — an ACC team, therefore part of the P5. Cincinnati, unfortunately, is not. The CFP committee would rather put in a two-loss Big 12 tram over an undefeated G5 team.

But let’s say you’re right, Quo. Let’s say that everything does fall right for Cincinnati. It’s still up to the committee to put them in the playoff. I just don’t see that happening. And that’s nothing against Cincinnati. It’s just that the playoff committee tends to favor P5 schools over G5 schools, and they’ve done that since its inception.

I pray to God that Cincinnati does find a way to crash the party, but I just don’t see it happening based on past seasons.

I no longer think Cincy has any change at the playoffs. Both ND and TAMU will finish ahead of them no matter what happens vs Tulsa.

#4 is going to be ND or A&M. Fair no, but I know how these things work. Just imagine if Cincinnati had been #3 this week and won by 52 and not made it.

Cincy appears well positioned to make the Peach Bowl - nice accomplishment! Team is loaded so maybe they can break the ceiling next year.
