MBB v. HBU
Game starts in around 30. Somewhat important to see how we bounce back after a semi-bad first loss. But also, this game won't tell us anything that we don't know. We've proven we can beat bad teams. Probably very little to glean from this one.

Same starting 5. Again, a small thing, but I'm not sure why a college team would take its first or second best player and use him off the bench. I get it in the NBA, because a 6th man can thrive against the backups. But that's not how college ball works.

Is Rice not allowing immediately family members to attend basketball games? You’d think there is plenty of room to safely space everyone.

Quick 5 for Mullins which is needed. We can't have a black hole at PG like we did against UNM.

Nice offensive rebound and put back by Fiedler. Good to see after the NM game.

Olivari remains on an absolute blinder. 7 for him in 3 minutes to push the Rice lead to 19-14.

Still suffering some hangover from the NM game.HBU able to get inside with ease. Fortunately their shots aren’t falling as often as NM’s.

HBU outshooting the Owls, but Owls have more shots, thankfully.

At the 6:51 stoppage, Owls shooting 39% from the field vs HBU at 47%, but Owls have 6 more shot attempts a 4 more FTs. Owls have also limited HBU to 1 offensive rebound.

25-20 Rice. Defense hasn't been great, which is worrisome. But also, I think this below average defensive effort (0.91 PPP allowed) is better than below average defensive efforts in past years. So kind of a plus.

Owls 8-10 from the FT line vs 1-2 for HBU is the difference so far. 35-29 at the 3:48 mark.

Abercrombie has been a bit disappointing early in the season. Hasn't shot the ball well and looks a bit sluggish on the defensive end. But, to be fair to him, he's also being forced to play as a backup 4 and 5 which is just not his position.

Rice 43-34 at the half.

Sounds like Monday's game vs Incarnate Ward has been canceled.

RE: MBB v. HBU
43-34 Rice at the half. A better offensive performance (although I think the points scored make it look better than it was), but that should be expected against HBU. Defense will have disappointed Pera. Olivari with 12, Havsa with 8, Mullins with 7, and Moore with 5. 38/35/64 shooting splits for Rice with just 4 TOs.

Olivari is absolutely SCORCHING hot. He hits three 3s in about a minute to make it a 64-46 Rice lead. He's already got 24 on 9-12, 5-8.

Believe it or not, Olivari now has 28 points on 10-13, 5-8 in just *14* minutes.

RE: MBB v. HBU
Honestly, the fact that Olivari has taken 15 shots in 16 minutes might be the exact reason why he doesn't start. Entirely possible that Pera thinks the ball sticks too much when he's on the floor. It's probably true that Olivari's green light is a bit too bright, but he can also get away with it when he's scoring like this. Meanwhile, HBU on a 8-0 run and has cut the lead to 12.

Has to be one of the hottest 75 minute stretches from a Rice guard in history. Olivari's now 26-43 (60%) overall and 18-30 (60%) from 3 in his last 75 minutes (this game so far plus his last two).
