I don’t see how they can go Indy with a $27MM budget.

Doesn’t hurt that out of state tuition is $15,000/yr less than at JMU.

I think they can do it by scheduling a couple of buy games. They aren't getting much now from MVFC, so there isn't a lot lost there. They need to pick up the cost of the extra schollies and increased travel, which probably isn't a lot because they are so "out there," they spend a lot already. I figure a million dollars covers the loss of MVFC money and the extra schollies.

Here’s the thing. Travel would murder them, and while they are successful in fcs and beating FBs teams on a one game basis, the week to week gauntlet I think would be difficult. However, not impossible. We did it.

Let’s look at the existing Indy budgets:

Notre Dame (this is an educated guess based on some digging) $161MM
Army @ $60MM
UCONN $80,900,782
Liberty $44MM (2016- bound to be in the $55-60MM range now)
UMASS $49,461,013
NMSU $28,010,801

If they went indy for football only, I don't think travel would be a lot different than it is now. Because Fargo is so remote, they pretty much have to fly everywhere now.

Yeah, but I don't think that matters so much. Jets pretty much burn kerosene. It might cost $200 extra to fly to Buffalo as opposed to Western Michigan. BFD! I just don't think that distance is much of an issue. Once the bird is in the air, it is cheap to fly.

RE: Rumblings in smelly Bisonland. FCS sucks! Go FBS NOW!
If NDSU were to go 1A then JMU could win the fcs NC every year, maybe never lose again after App, ODU, Coastal, UCF, USF, G State, G South, Charlotte & LU moved up watering down the fcs competition to the point of who could name the next best five fcs programs and FBS teams won't play JMU out of fear. Even W&M may get out of the way.

Isn't beating programs with nowhere near the support in any category by 60 points a worthy pursuit? Maybe we could be thr first team to score 100 points in a NC game.

Hmm, I guess close shaves against Weber or a losses against MT and Colgate don’t count. 07-coffee3

I love how they say we (JMU) have turned down invites from Sunbelt, CUSA, and MAC. None of which is true. We may have had talks with those conferences, but never got a formal invite from any of them. NDSU is not going FBS any sooner than we are.

Jet A now cheap (aroubd $1.30 & had fallem way below $1) because of the virus. Before the virus was ballpark aroubd $2 a gallon. Assuming its going 737 burn rate about 750 gallons an hr. Would be ballpark 2 extra hrs roundtrip flying between those 2 schools, about $3000 ballpark difference in fuel (assuming prices go back up).

For every football charter schools are paying at least in the 5 figures. Is a 2 hr each way charter going to going to be double a 1 hr? No. But will be significantly more. Is anyone paying over 100k for a roubdtrip transcontinental (5-6 hrs each way) charter? I don’t know. (Also will depend on airports flying in an out of). I‘d be curious to see roundtrip charter prices that schools pay for 1-5 hr flights.

Apparently all this time all we needed was to talk about it on a message board and have an article written about it and it will all magically happen!!

You usually don’t get an official invite until you agree to accept.

RE: Rumblings in smelly Bisonland. FCS sucks! Go FBS NOW!
1. That was 6 years ago. Nothing ever changes, right?
2. JMU turned down the Sun Belt and it was the RIGHT decision. The Sun Belt is a bad fit for JMU. They would have been a geographical outlier. Travel costs would have went up.
3. That comment was made by the conference that was turned down by us. If you turned down a job and the president of the company said "______ made a decision that he/she doesn't want to make more money", would you really take that person's word as gospel? The Sun Belt was trying to save face and make JMU look like the problem. JMU makes decisions that are best for JMU.
It was a bad decision then, and it would be a bad decision now.

RE: Rumblings in smelly Bisonland. FCS sucks! Go FBS NOW!
NDSU currently:
-9 to 10 home games every season, all or mostly sellouts. 6-7 regular season home games. Every season at least 6. At least 1 of the 11 game seasons, and a couple of the 12 game seasons had 7. Plus 3 playoff.
-4x on Nat TV (3 playoff and usually 1 other)

5 away games. 3-4 flying with 1-2 bus between SDSU, S Dakota & N Dakota (N Dakota recently rejoined the MVFC).

With a move up:
-6 home games
-6 away. 5 or all 6 flying (longer/more expensive on avg).

How much would a new dome in the 30-40k capacity cost? 100 million? 150 million?

There's a discussion to add 5,000 to 7,000 seats. But they would need to move the press box from the East side to the West side. The West side has been reinforced and could handle extra levels. East side cannot.

This according to the Fargo Dome Wikipedia page.
