We are about to announce a new head football coach. We aren’t about to drop football.

Too bad for everyone involved. Except the guy about to get a $100,000 a year to not win many football games.

Don’t be stupid. They’re not dropping football.

I’m just relaying what I’ve heard ULS board members say.

Well I can tell you they’re not dropping football.

RE: ULM Updates
His name alone will bring some recognition to the program, and hopefully help you guys do some fund raising. With his age though, he is a short term fix, maybe 4 years. But it could be a very beneficial 4 years with a new president. I know we talk gloom and doom with ULM, but this could truly be make or break time for ULM. If the support for football isn’t there to continue after year 3 or 4, this could be it.

Good Luck ULM, you know we will all be there to watch. 04-cheers

That's... interesting. Granted he's taken every team he's coached to 1st in the division for a brief moment. On the other hand, he's 65 years old and has had 4 winning seasons since coming out of retirement 11 years ago.

That’s the guy. What I like is he will be a celebrity in town and I believe have the best chance of fundraising and should be able to recruit well. I don’t like his age, but he hasn’t just sat back in his laurels, he has at least been involved with Dabo at Clemson and extended his education by getting a Master’s in athletic administration. Will be nice actually having some one in the athletics administration that has connections and experience. I wouldn’t be upset if they made him AD too. Or maybe he coaches four years and then becomes AD. Other key is getting young up and coming assistants in the program. Overall, I don’t think for the position we are in we could have made a much better hire for us. Also, what names we now have in the SBC as coaches? Butch Jones, Terry Bowden, Napier, Chadwell, and even Major Applewhite as an OC. Ironically and historically Terry Bowden may be the biggest “name” coach. Wish us luck. We need it. At least I hear the players are pumped and many in portal wanting to come back now. Lastly, makes me feel better about our new President. Our AD had a but hired Joe Sloan, OC at La Tech, and our President vetoed it and hired Bowden.

I don't think any recruit knows who he is...I would rather a High school coach than a 65 year old with 1 winning season in G5

Would have been a hit 20 years ago. Nice name at least. Maybe he can have more success than Viator did but honestly it’s going to take a Hugh Freeze type miracle for ULM to ever emerge from their slums.

RE: ULM Updates
Well it came down to him and the West Monroe high school head coach Wolfbird. Terry Bowden is the only one that would accept the $100k. You do what you have to do.

Sources: Rich Rodriguez is a candidate to join Terry Bowden’s staff at ULM.

The former WVU, Michigan and Arizona coach was last the OC at Ole Miss in 2019.

That will be a big time hire. Just think, he had the Alabama job and turned it down, then Bama went after Saban. How different would life be now had that happened.

Fundraising at ULM should be off the charts next couple years.

He’s only 57. 03-nutkick

I think for ULM it’s a great hire. There is WVU connection between Terry and Rich, so I’m sure that helped. Terry is working towards being AD, Rich can take over as HC once Terry gets the AD gig at ULM.

You don't win with a geriatric staff at the G5 level .. this has been proven countless times

There is a reason why the only 2 coaches fired this year in the belt were in their late 50s

Not sure if ULM’s endgame in this hire is winning, it’s surviving. They need money, lots of money, and Terry and a Rich Rod should be able to hit the fundraising trail and open some wallets. I would think the goal is to spend the next two years putting the program on good financial footing, build/upgrade some facilities, and then worry about winning.
