I remember when UT fans were bummed over losing Beachem to OSU - me included. However; Mikonowicz HAS BEEN A MAJOR IMPROVEMENT AND SHE IS A FRESHMAN! I think it’s a great story that she has moved from a non offered HS player (DI) to a preferred walk-on to a scholarship player to a DI starter in a span of less than 6 months. Amazing!!!

I love it when local kids stay home and excel.

Not sure what Beachsm would have offered this year but hard to argue that Miconowicz hasn’t performed as well as Tanaya’s past seasons. Beecham probably made a good decision for herself and I hope she leads OSU in a long string of losses, but does well individually.

Mikonowicz has been great. We would be a much better team if Beacham had stayed.

Much better??? I respect your opinion but I’ll take Mikonowicz. Beachem was a VERY One dimensional front court player. Mikonowicz is perhaps a better rebounder (TB’s best area) and scorer and ball handler. A better overall player and more eligibility and GRATEFUL.

Minimally, Tanaya would have improved our bench, provided a big, athletic body in the lane and taken on some of the scoring load that was dangerously lopsided last night. I would take her in a heartbeat, just not INSTEAD of Sammi.

Tanaya was difference maker last year when she finally started and got major minutes. she was a major contributor to the back to back wins against Central at the end of the season. If Tayana was a rocket this season she would be starting in the post where there is an absence of an effective post presence. She wouldn't be playing instead of Mikonowicz but next to Mikonowicz. Together they would have turned a post offensive and rebounding weakness into an asset complementary to the guard play of Wiard and Lockett.

Regardless...I think having a core of Lockett, Wiard, and Mikonowicz for the next three years is about as solid of a young foundation as we've had in a long time. All we need is for one of our posts to just be even AVERAGE and we very realistically could be competing for conference titles again.

I wouldn't say Mikonowicz is better than Beacham at this point. Beacham would give this team another dimension as an inside scorer and a bigger body defender inside. True Sammi can do things Beacham can't, but it's only been 3 games. I'm sure she will have ups and downs for a while. Would rather have both of them playing right now.
