Who will be the next MAC school to leave the conference ?
If I had to guess, I would put my money on the Bulls of Buffalo. If the AAC ever restructure their conference, would UB be asked to join ?

Buffalo is the only possibility. A real research university and would be the only state flagship university in the AAC. Not sure they will ever have great attendance, though.

UB is a possibility but really not likely since Buffalo is a hard core pro sports town. Cannot see them getting an invite to another conference.

Go Rockets!

they're a better fit for the Big East, but I don't think their basketball will be consistent enough to get the ask. BE emphasis is on a larger cities and strong bball programs, plus w UB being a good school that helps. They's still need a home for other sports tho

BU to me, seems like they are lost in the land of "low interest and support". I know they have had strong FB and MBB for sure but it seems like neither they or the MAC gets much from their success. They are good but hard to see or hear much about them. If the $10+ budget advantage over UT is true, you would think that would explain a lot. Same old question for them is what do you to with everything except FB and MBB? Who do they play and align with?
What is going to happen when the COVID droplets settle and we try to resume a normal sports life again? I say BU stays for the foreseeable future.

Under the heading of a rising tide lifts all boats ... I would be looking to add two teams AND 2 BIG ONES ... while it might take a few years for the dominoes to fall just right, if I were commish I would be having talks right now with Pitt and Cincinnati about joining the MAC ...

Pitt is generally stuck in the ACC basement in both FB and BB, but would sit at the top of the MAC in both, although not so far ahead that they couldn't be caught. Cincy might be a tougher get, but pending finances that could tip the scales, and like Pitt would jump to the head of the class. The MAC would become an almost annual pick to be in that one big money bowl game in football, and most assuredly become a two if not 3-bid league in hoops.

I'm dreaming, sure.

But I'd rather dream big instead of woe is me, losing Buffalo, or wishing for Marshall-WKY team to slide into the mix, but not really change the MAC dynamics.

GREAT! Ann Arbor will reduce travel distance for most of the MAC when Meechigan joins.

Lolol

UB could someday join AAC but even that is borderline in today’s climate... it’s all about $. I don’t see UB being a plus $ school to any other conference. UB is possibly hoping to do what other eastern schools could not do (UMASS & UCONN). I think UB has even longer odds than those two schools did.

Go Rockets!

Dear Rockets,
Wasn't Cincinnati an original member of the MAC? Personally, I do not think Cincinnati gives two hoots about joining the MAC. The other problem as I see it, Cincy would be another Ohio team, and that is not expanding the brand.

My sense is that Akron and others could live simply due to finances.

Akron literally has the worst finances out of any MAC school by a wide margin...
