Also wondering if ABC might buy out a significant portion of that CBS deal?
Yep something like this.
My understanding on all of this was that the numbers were agreed upon in January and that all they were waiting on at the time was Disney's seeking to buy out the remaining CBS contract which at the time was for next year. How COVID may have impacted that is another matter and may have been why it took so long to come to an agreement on whether to buyout the remaining CBS time or not.
It was speculated by John Thompson who handles Disney among many other clients for advertising that CBS / ABC may have been wrangling over access to a broader inventory from ABC/ESPN over a longer period of time in exchange of giving up the T1. Who knows how that went.
But Sankey will have his moment to be cemented if the numbers kicked around in January are indeed in the ballpark of what is announced this afternoon.
I'd would love to hear that Texas and Oklahoma had joined but alas, they still have an effective GOR until 2024 is done. So all bets are it will be the contract numbers that Sankey will announce.
It's particularly telling that the new Vanderbilt Chancellor committed to significant facilities upgrades and a promise to compete in all sports today. AllTideUp provided the link for that on the SEC board here at CSNbbs.
I wondered initially why these remarks came today, but in light of Sankey's announcement it makes perfect sense.
Now could Sankey tag this announcement by making a change in the date of the CCG or make some announcement impacting basketball? Maybe, but doubtful.
