W&M football fix
For anyone looking for a distraction and some Tribe football, I found on YouTube a full MSG replay of our 1983 Homecoming game against Rutgers. I googled William & Mary vs Rutgers and it popped up.

It’s an exciting game to watch, lots of scoring. Spoiler alert, we lost 35-28. As I mentioned to my son, it was the last time W&M hosted a Big 10 opponent (cough). Production quality very good, an MSG broadcast with Rutgers announcers.

Anyway, a few observations looking back at this telecast:
1) we still had a marching band!
2) we had Tribe on the helmets though the broadcast refers to us as the Indians.
3) students really packed the stands
4) we had much larger end zone seating and both ends are packed and people were packed behind ropes 3-4 deep in the corners.
5) Laycock just a young man, only his 4th year at the helm.
6) notable players in the game are Mark Kelso, Mario Schafer, Bob Solderich, Glen Bodnar and at OT, Chris Huge (Samanthas brother)!
7. It’s fun watching the more wide open offense Laycock ran then. Lots of passing, reverses. Etc.
8. Jokes about our west side open air press box from the Rutgers broadcasters.
9. Game temp was 62 degrees, late Oct, but no mentions of global warming.
10. All those beautiful pine trees that used to surround the stadium, Cary Stadium still on this broadcast.
11: it may have been overlapped now but this game used to be in our record books for most pass attempts and/or most pass completions. QB was David Murphy, playing in place of injured Stan Yagiello.

Anyway, it’s worth a look.

Laughing at the part about hosting a Big 10 opponent (double cough). Pretty sure they were an independent (as many were back then). Brings back memories about our 100-90 loss in hoops from a few years earlier. I imagine that we had a relationship with them of some sort, but not sure what.

Fun game to watch. Consider this: those two cute little girls, waving to the cameraman, in the second quarter, are now in their mid-40's.

So we're just going to ignore the fact that you ref'ed the game?[Image: 97fa04e479092bf99a7472373d1c56e0.jpg]

Yeah, got a chuckle out of that. If it had actually been me, every call would have gone against Rutgers.

I'm figuring you could have been a 10-14 point swing.

The name "Jeff Triplette" jumped out as me as well as I recognized him as an NFL Official. Assume it is the same guy.
