RE: TV Viewership Ratings for AAC & other non-P5 teams: Weeks 1-14
That's a great weekend for the SunBelt.
Very good ESPN Friday number - not unprecedented or anything.

Then a five-year high for a game on ESPNU!

RE: TV Viewership Ratings for AAC & other non-P5 teams: Week 15 UPDATE
I posted this in the "Top Ten Viewed Games" thread on the silly forum:
Quote:In recent years, Army-Navy has been a repeat offender in the Top 10 when it has had the second Saturday to itself. Over the last four years, Army-Navy averaged over eight million viewers. This year, it's currently the #12 most viewed game, and CCGs will drop it to #15 - #17
In COVID 2020, there were EIGHTEEN rated network games on 12 December. In Army-Navy's timeslot, there were four games on rated networks, and FIVE ranked teams playing including an ESPN+ game. Army-Navy won that timeslot and won the weekend.
The 4.91 million viewers are a step down from being the only game between CCGs and Bowls...but still better than the 2008 nadir competing with the CCGs.

One additional thought relative to your point above: This year's 4.91 million viewers will almost certainly be surpassed by the non-contract-bowl-conference team in the Cotton/Peach/Fiesta. The worst NY6 viewership in the CFP era was Western Michigan's Cotton Bowl with 5.442 million viewers. Non-contract-bowl team vs non-contract-bowl team? Probably stays A-N.

Yup, unless Alabama blows the doors off Florida and chaos has ensued giving the appearance that Cincy might have a play off spot at stake, then the championship might get close, it's usually 3m-ish, the problem is Disney always lines us opposite the SEC, I think only once did we get to avoid that and it was so they could put us head to head with the first new big Xii championship game that was OU/Texas and we did pretty good against that too.

I'd love to see what we do against a PAC, ACC, or Big XII (not OU/Texas).

Also of note

3/10 sunbelt teams have multiple one million+ games, coastal will make it four with their championship game. It will also make Louisiana the only g5 team with 3 million+ games not in the AAC.

5/11 AAC teams have multiple million+ games with Tulsa's championship appearence will make it six. Cincinnati, Navy, and UCF have 3 million+ games with Cincy to take the lead with four on saturday.

Only Army and BYU also have multiple million+ games.

I think that is a reflection of the shortened season and the strict conference game schedule, with a late start to boot.

I think in the past the CBSsports contract has hurt, in particular SDSU and maybe Fresno who come with a big enough base and enough name recognition to get some good but not blockbuster match ups over the line. The AAC has out performed the MW by a ways so I doubt it would be enough to catch up, because Boise is rarely handicapped like that meaning the MW's best numbers get counted.

I think we will have to wait till next year to be able to see what the new deal really does doe both conferences. I do think the OTA guarenteed games on Fox CBS will help you all. Luckily the AAC has outperformed the required OTA games on ABC and brought in solid numbers, so I think we can safely expect that trend to continue and the viewership to increase. I also expect the MW viewership to grow beyond the CBSsports switch growth.

We actually avoided the OU/Texas CCG head-to-head. (that one did ten million viewers...still lagged the SEC)

2019 AAC CCG 2.880 million h2h SEC 13.7 million and mwc 0.55 million
2018 AAC CCG 3.321 million h2h SEC 17.499 million
2017 AAC CCG 3.385 million h2h BigXII (OU-TCU)5.896 million, MAC 0.652, and CUSA 0.255
2016 AAC CCG 2.05 million h2h non-CCG-BigXII 4.817, CUSA 0.926
2015 AAC CCG 2.450 million h2h non-CCG-BigXII (TX-Baylor) 3.943, CUSA 0.488

Only Army and BYU also have multiple million+ games.

Looking at conference-controlled games and intra-conference games in 2020...
SunBelt has had 3 conference-controlled games over one million viewers, 1 of which was SBC vs SBC.
The AAC in 2020 has had 8 conference-controlled games over one million viewers, and 4 of them were AAC vs AAC.

Looking at 2015-2020...
SunBelt has had 3 conference-controlled games over one million viewers, 1 of which was SBC vs SBC. No not a typo - those games this year were the first million viewer games in SunBelt media rights since 2015 at least.
In that timeframe, AAC is up to 53 AAC-inventory games over one million viewers. 23 AAC vs AAC over a million viewers 2015-2020.

'15-'20 conference controlled games over 1 million viewers: AAC 53, CUSA 2, MAC 2, mwc 7, SBC 3
'15-'20 intra-conference games over 1 million viewers: AAC 23, MAC 2 (CCGs), mwc 4 (3 reg season, 1 CCG), SBC 1 (reg season)
